VIV Inspections are a National Rort!
I bought a damaged Z1000 about 2 years ago & had a VIV Inspection to prove the repairs were legitimate (no stolen parts) and the standard of repair was satisfactory. The bike passed with flying colours.

Re: Head stem bearing symptoms
Thanks for the reply, photomike.
I rode relatively hard for about 5 hours, so any potential flat-spots or fork oil 'seperation' would've been well & truly eliminated.
I will try the side-stand trick for the stem bearings...

Head stem bearing symptoms
Hey all - long time no visit...
I'm curious as to what the symptoms are of a failed head stem bearing?
I was riding on the weekend after having the bike stored for 6 weeks and whenever I braked on a slight angle, I was experiencing slight brake shudder through the bars/ brake lever.

It is the grey coloured shock with black spring.

Re: Z1000 Spring Rates
Thanks for the professional advice, Zeno.
I read your column in Rapid Bikes, every issue!
What would you reccomend in my circumstances?
I have Ohlins 0.95kg fork springs, heavier fork oil & a stock ZX636 rear shock (that is a little too bouncy).
Cheers.
Daz.

Z1000 Spring Rates
Hi all,
I have fitted a ZX636 shock & Ohlins fork springs to my 2004 Z1000 and it rides... Well... Weird.
I took it to my suspension specialist (krooz Tune) & he reckons the rear spring is too stiff.
What I'm wanting to know is whether the spring rate on the stock Z1000 shock is lower than the 636's ...

Re: Need help with some PCIII info.
I had my 04 Z1k custom mapped at Dynoverks (Melbourne), with a result of 130hp & 70 ft/lbs of torque @ the wheel.
The Zed is all about the torque, so don't get too worked up on how much peak HP it makes.
I have a full Ti Muzzy exhaust, K&N & airbox mod.
I also got my PC3 from Tim at Superbike ...

Ensure they complete this & allow you to keep it for your records:

IMO, this is the only way to make certain the inspection/ adjustment gets done!

Re: Fuel in crankcase
Hang on & back this thread up a bit...
Why do you think there's fuel in the sump?
Was it because it sloshed easily? :?
The easiest & cheapest way to find this out for sure would be to drop the oil out if the sump & get a $50 oil analysis done to determine the level of fuel in your oil.

A little off-topic but you haven't elaborated on "voiding your warranty".
If you have fitted a PC3 and your wheel bearings fail after 200km, they would try deny liability?

Re: 30,000KM Service... Please Help
were your valve clearances not done at 24,000km?
I recently did my 24k service myself but got the local Kwaka dealer to do the valve shim adjustments as I am not competent in doing that.
The valve adjustment was $400, throttle body synchronisation (in your case a carb' synch) was $100 and I spent ...
