Helmet Bluetooth Sena SMH10

Post by Nelso »

As those that have ridden with Leanne and I know, we use the Sena SMH10 Bluetooth system and have done for nearly two years now. At first, we weren't sure how much we would like them, but they have turned out to be a great asset to our road riding and completely changed the way we listen to music and stay in touch with each other. They have seen commuting everyday by Leanne, two CDT's, three Oxley trips and have endured all kinds of weather conditions from extreme heat to torrential rain. To say we are impressed with them is an understatement. We think they are great. After this past weekend; however, I have become even more impressed with Sena as well as Mr Mobile, who are the Sena reps on the East Coast of Australia and have to give them due recognition publicly.

The first units we bought worked well for a while, but one of them (mine) developed a small intermittent glitch. We sent it back and it was replaced, no questions asked. The next 18 months has seen faultless operation by both units until Leanne lost the Bluetooth module off the side of her helmet on the way to work one morning (due to not putting it on correctly). It bounced down the road and up someone's driveway, stopping under their car. After finding it and expecting the worst, she snapped it back on and it worked perfectly. Turns out they are tough little buggers after all.

The whole time of owning it, my unit has had one bent pin where the contact is made between it and the part that attaches to the helmet. It didn't effect the way it worked, so I have never done anything about it. Last weekend we happened to talk to Steve from Mr Mobile at the Motorcycle Show and I mentioned how they have been great and how mine had a bent pin but still worked fine. He told me to send it up to him anyway, as it should be fixed under their two year warranty. So, we sent the unit up to them on Tuesday and I received an email on Thursday telling me it was going to be replaced with a brand new one and it turned up today! Talk about great service.

If anyone is considering getting a Bluetooth unit to hook up to their phone so they can take calls, listen to music without any wires hanging out of your helmet or to be able to talk to others you are riding with, we can't fault the Sena ones as they have been great. It has been a pleasant surprise buying these units and receiving the great after sales service, especially in this day and age where profits are usually a higher priority than service. Well done to Mr Mobile (http://www.mrmobile.net.au/) and to Sena for impressing a cynical old bastard. :kuda:

I'm more of a tight-ass bahstid.

After a bit of research, the Sena and the Scala G4 were the go. I picked the G4 more on visual appeal. I decided to flick any chance of after-sales service and saved 100s buying from a US eBay seller.

I was half expecting it to be gimmicky, but it works extremely well, and has transformed our biking experience. We use the intercom all the time, and it's totally sociable. The noise-cancelling microphone and auto volume works well, turning up when going and down when stopped. Listen to radio or MP3s if the yakking stops. I received a call the other day and the caller could not believe I was riding. "No, I meant where are you NOW?!!" ...

I have not had a single issue with them.

I'm not saying one is better, nor if you should or shouldn't pay the extra to support your local... But I AM saying that these things are fantastic, and if you have half a thought you might need one, don't hesitate. They are great.
