Coloured Plates Warning

Post by KEL10R »

Went for a ride yesterday and my mate pulled me over and told me my plate had come off down the road,I laughed untill he pulled it out of his jacket... I had a look at the back of my bike and had only these two screws attached
went into the RTA today and they said yes it's a known problem, they noitified the plate mob and issued me a new plate free of charge then told me i may want to put rubber washers on to stop it happening again
what, are they made with chinese metal now.
Heads up people.

They tell you this after the fact but they don't recommend tightening them up to far (hmm) and using a rubber washer to lessen vibrations.

Dodge.

I do some work on machines and electrical cabinets made in China. It's a growing trend where manufacturers can buy from china for a quarter of the price to have made in Australia. Then they spend another quarter of the cost paying australian contractors like me to bring it all up to standard and commission.

The metal, parts, and quality of workmanship on some things is TERRIBLE!! Metal so thin and weak you can stab a screwdriver THROUGH IT to contact live terminals. Cable lugs that break off first time you touch them. A lot of the wiring is undersized, wrong colours and not flexible enough and has to changed out. Inferior copies of components badged with original markings, it's a minefield!

Anyways I digress.

Happened to me about 3 years ago coming back from the Oxley. It was a standard number plate. I now secure with cable ties (wish I have invented them) and no issues since

Nothing to do with Chinese built, plates are made from Aluminium, this stuff does not like the vibrations present at the mudguard! Have you ever looked at another bike sitting next to you at the lights, and noticed how much these things vibrate? Because manufacturers are trying to lose weight, the rear guard is now made from tissue paper, hence the vibrations! Plates are now made thinner also.

I bought a set of race fairings for $450 delivered and painted with my own design from China. Everything is awesome...

Except for the decal "raicng team" under the clear coat..

If your running a fender eliminator and have a rego tube at the bottom of your plate, they are more prone to breaking; had it happen twice, relocated the rego tube problem solved.

You dont have to worry about rego labels now as they have been shit canned.

I was pulled over yesterday by an RBT unit and whilst I had a reading of zero, the copper asked me if my bike was registered as the label said Oct 2012.
My response was, that to my knowledge you don't have to display the label no more. He said , that's not the case, 'till they send it you have to display it.
Until then it's a fine-able offence  ( I didn't get fined :) )
The no label will come into full effect next year. :kuda:
