Tym - Fender eliminators are not necessarily illegal, just that most after market ones are. Why would they could they? I guess you have to make a rule so that you can enforce it. Doesn't mean it makes sense,

I see, another revenue raising bullshit rule then. Ah well sort of ticked the major boxes incase a cop does pull me over. Only thing ill be fucked for is probably the mud guard as i do see a tiny bit of the "safety issue"

Was recently pulled over by the riot squad for speeding. According to them, all they heard was my exhaust taking of, but did not see me as they were behind some car's. Since i was ahead of all the cager's at the light's must mean i was speeding
Anyway's he didn't question me about my pipe being loud or anything such as that. I was doing about 60-62. Claimed it would be a loss of license if the HWP caught me. I didn't want to argue with it, as doing so would probably get my liscense suspended (not sure if riot squad has the right to issue a ticket like that) & probably booked with a defect for the pipe. He let me of with a warning and a story of 2 incident's that he witnessed.

I might add he came of at me in an aggressive manner, until i took off the helmet in a polite manner. Guess being polite & dark brown helps you out in this case

Shouldn't i be safe as there's a 3km buffer to the speedlimit? or this is invalid for P plater's

mudflaps? safety of little pebbles/ water tails?- if so car's that are in front of me in the wet and their water tail is shocking as i can't see shit unless i change lanes or slow down.
45 deg angle?- covered that
illuminated number plate - covered that
reflector- covered that

Now I'm confused...I always thought the 45 deg rule applied but VSI 28 shows different...

Not sure where you learnt your geometry at school, but when i learnt it, that pic of the rear guard looks to be approximately at a 45 degree angle???

Well I actually did advanced maths at school and spent 10 years as a surveyor, before the computer age where you had to know what you were doing and all calculations were manual, so I think my geometry is pretty good...

My point is...

The regulation reads "A rear wheel or sidecar wheel mudguard must extend at least from a point vertically above the
front of the tyre to a point vertically above the rear of the tyre." The diagram in yzr750's link actually shows 45 deg but this is not repeated in the text.

There is a radius (from the axle) where the 45 deg will cover from front of tyre to rear of tyre.
To demonstrate the point take the 45deg line out to double the radius of the tyre and it results in the guard having to extend well beyond the vertical line from the rear of the tyre.

If the rule is as the text shows then drop a plumb-bob from the rear of the FE and if this is rear of the tyre then it should comply (IMHO).

So I'd guess it has been updated.

BUT the written rule doesn't even mention 45 deg, just that it has to cover the tyre from front to back...
If you FE complied with that I reckon a good lawyer would get you off.

Still reckon it's a grey area and as this is a law then it should be clear...the diagram and the written rule should be the same.
