SBk - faster cornering compared to those heavy v8's

and i would have to say formula 1 car for over all acceleration and cornering

this is going to be a very good debate :kuda:

Just cracked the thousandth post....cool. I'm a contributor now!

Who would have thought, way back at Phillip Island when some kid came running up to me and stick a KSRC sticker on my ZX10, I'd still be talking rubbish.

Still haven't met any KSRC mofo's as yet.....bloody Tasmania!

Don't know about GP's but I can tell you a V8 Supercar will outbrake and outcorner the superbike fairly comprehensively simply due to the difference in contact patch. I can't remember when but I remember reading a comparo in a bike mag years ago and the V8 pretty well smashed the bike into the weeds in those two area's. I think the bike makes up for it in acceleration though.

If you look at the lap times around Eastern Creek I'm pretty sure the records are fairly close (Aussie superbikes of course)

Plus one

It's also due to the incredible down force that the cars create. Bike acceleration is off the planet in comparison but braking and cornering the cars have it

From a technical perspective I think the comparison between MotoGp and F1 is valid, but comparing an Aussie superbike to a v8 supercar is not even close. The Aussie superbike is not far removed from bike you can buy off the showroom floor, the only thing a V8 supercar has in common with a Falcon or Commodore is the badge.

Silverstone 2011,
MotoGP - 1:51
F1 - 1:30

Phillip island lap records
V8 super cars - 1:34
Moto GP - 1:30
WSB - 1:31
WSS 1:34

So it's a close run thing between V8 & bikes super sport, WSB & MotoGP are slightly quicker and F1 is in a whole different league.

I would expect an F1 car to reach 160kph and back to 0 by the time the others reached 160!! The actually stop faster than they accelerate. Something to do with the aero package & a power to weight of 1500bhp per 1000kg (including driver).

In a recent race the F1 were pulling 4g on the brakes and 5g lateral loading on high speed turns, wouldn't expect MotoGP to exceed 3G anywhere

Not even 3G for a bike. Wheelies and stoppies limit longitudinal Gs, and angle of lean limits lateral Gs.

I think the stat you were thinking of is that an F1 car is faster from 100 to 200 then it is from 0 to 100 because of the downforce?

Pretty amazing shit.

F1 0-100kph-0 is around 5 seconds. 0-100 is 2.6 then takes on 48 feet to stop

Isn't formula 1 a 750cc class from the 70's? And when did they start a V8 motorcycle racing class?? I'd love to see that...........

Depends on the track, heavy braking and direction changes kill bikes, hard acceleration kills the v8s, no bike can compete with f1 regardless of track

Don't you just love it all for what they are? It is like going and watching club racing, they aren't the best but they try their best and provide some bloody good entertainment.

Not sure what Club racing you've seen NT, but the ones I have seen there is always a few SS or SBK rider's tapping on the door of the lap record with several others almost as close???? :? Sure, the top 20 aren't separated by a second, but the top end is always near on lap record pace at the clubbies i've ventured to over the years.
