Definatly a sad story make's you (well me anyway) wonder if it happend all of a sudden or slowly ,the rebellion that is....I have an 11 year old daughter myself and story's like this make you wonder how it can all go wrong drug's?....Are her parent's separated etc....

Hopefully the planet's re-align for the family after this....I cant imagine what the mother is going thru ATM

Thanks Nelso I will pass on the details, as for the cops, when the parents are at their wits end standing in the cop shop, its not such a stupid idea to at least ask for whatever help they can get be it bang her up for a night or whatever.

Its the million dollar question when it comes to kids nowdays and all we as parents can do is our best .All these post have teriffic points on what should be done and not, but in the long run it all boils down to the indivisuals circumstances.I more agree with Jonno ,back off and be there for them when needed mainly because i have found out myself that more you push and nag them the further they push you away ,i know its bloody hard to sit back and wait and watch and hope that they dont get into to much trouble but what can you do.Maybe time to bring in a curfew laws

Spare the rod and spoil the child. These rebellious and ill mannered children need some good ass kicking. Also, to a great extent it is the fault of parents. We live in an age where some parents are not fit to be parents and some teachers not fit to be teachers.

I was in two minds about posting here as I am not a parent myself. I do however work as a guardian for a range of children, teens and youth who are in care and trying to find their way in the world.

Stories like this still sadden me.
Here are a few things that I’ve learnt.

Be positive as hard as it is. Try to focus, nurture and encourage positive things about them. Kids tend to put up walls and withdraw when negatives are constantly thrown at them, like how bad they are, what bad choices they make, how they need to improve, what they need to do and how ‘wrong’ their friends are.

Nurture interests and things which encourage positive environments, like good clubs and sports groups. Trying to encourage kids into these groups/areas can assist with positive role models, respect, team building and boundaries.

Set boundaries and follow through with consequences. Try not to say NO outright, instead give a couple of options. They still have the power to choose, but you’re guiding the outcome. Negotiate.

Sit at the table and talk over dinner, get involved with their interests. Try and encourage, understand and listen without hastily making judgement.

Relocation may work for some. For others your not fixing the issue, just putting it off. Sooner or later they will seek and run a similar or worse crowd.

Scare tactics worked in the past, like the Reaper add for Aids, but times have changed.
How effective are Antismoking, Antidrug and obesity campaigns these days?

Police can do very little for underage kids. A stern talking to is generally laughed at and desensitises kids to the impact of what can actually happen to them.

There will come a point in time where kids need to take ownership of their own actions. Be there. Never give up.
Some life lessons are hard and painful lessons to learn.

There could be a number of reasons why this particular young lady continues to abscond. There are a range of community resources for parents out there. Not all will suit everyone. Feel free to PM, happy to forward them on.

Thats the biggest mistake a lot of parents make, it's to easy just to say no and be done with it.
We don't think twice about such actions because most of us suffered the same responses from our parents.....
it's bred into us, but times have changed (not for the better) so we need to pamper to the little shits feelings a little more
It's DAMN hard to undo centuries, or even millenia's worth of what we got though!!!

Boundarys for kids need to be firmly set from day one , and still there is no guarantee they will do the right thing .There is a lot of luck involved .
