What size forks are they Gos 37mm?

Looks horn, I have to say I am quite fond of the GPz11, those colours look hawt.

Now would be a good time to get the pearl a kerker, exchane rate is sensational. Want some bar end mirrors for it? I am ordering a set from our supplier on ZRXOA.

cheers Phil :D - I think they are 37mm, they went to 38mm for the 81-82 models, and used a thinner wall, but a bit much flex I think ? so went back to 37mm and slightly thicker walls for the 83-85 model 1100's.......I might pass on the bar-end mirrors mate ( and the order has probably gone in already by now).

Update today - due to the hot-start problems, and the massive current-draw which seems to occur at the same time - I thought it might be a good idea to pull the starter motor out, and have a bit of a look inside...

Very dirty, and hard to turn the splined end. So pulled it apart, and cleaned up all the innards, the commutator brushes are all well within spec, so they don't need to be replaced. Put it all back together, and after I go to a local vintage swap meet tomorrow with PC, will see if this has made any difference to starting......fingers crossed....

Apart from this problem, everything else is ready to go for rego......

Also, while Im thinking about it...
Cant find the other one I was talking about yesterday, but seeing that the $AU is still pretty healthy:

Figure group shipment would make it worthwhile...

the clean-up went well......it was very dirty inside with lots of carbon build-up. So I am hoping that this will sort out the slow-winding problem with hot starting......

I have had to order an alternator-cover gasket though... :? so waiting on that to turn up....

That is a good price alright - I will send Jeff an email and see how many he has in stock. I need 3 of these babies....

Been a while since this thread has been updated - and there has been some movement at the station as far as this rig is concerned.....

Last year I put a temporary permit on this bike in October, for a shot at rego. But the issue of poor hot-starting ( and a couple of other minor issues) meant that I couldn't get it regoe'd at the time.....

Fast forward 6 months, and a few issues have been sorted. The fairing mounts have been re-made, and now the upper fairing sits a lot neater over the headlight. Headlight bucket has been sorted. Airbox re-fitted with new airbox rubbers. Starter motor has had the armature cleaned to the max. A number of smaller details have also been sorted & tidied up.

What this has all meant - is that the bike now starts easily hot or cold. I think the 2 EFI relays still need to be replaced, but the important thing is that it starts, idles, and seems to rev out OK now, with all the OEM fuel injection fitted. Its a blast to ride, a bit long in the wheelbase compared to a normal Z, but it pulls cleanly through all the gears, and the EFI seems to be working pretty well....

Here are a couple of pictures from the track-day at Marulan, held yesterday by CanberraRIDERS. It was a washout, but the old girl seemed to rev out OK on the short straight, and running in the rain didn't cause any issues. The real test will be on a dry track-day, where I can do a number of legs over the course of the day - hopefully without any more issues popping up.

If successful - 6 months rego over this summer should be a lot of fun.

Thats a beauty Gos! Reminds me of the old days wish i didn't sell mine now. Also recon its good you kept the fuel injection, cause i think they went great because of it.I found mine to be really comfortable to ride too, good ride to do some miles on.good job

cheers :kuda: keeping the DFI was pretty important, I have seen far too many old GPz's converted to carbies and am not a fan of this at all. The injection system on these old girls is pretty straightforward........

They were a great interstate mile-muncher in their day. As you say - very comfortable, quick and easy to ride fast.

Pinchy - a ride is yours when we are at the next track day with this bike :kuda:

that last shot was when the old girl was taken up to MDTC for a track-day - when it rained. (some photos above of that gig).

The main reason for this update though - is some good news needs to be shared.

Today - the old Geeper passed its rego inspection !!! :kuda: :kuda: :kuda: Very happy with that. Old mate inspector dude did pick up on the worn fork seals (despite my best efforts at wiping them clean just around the corner before the inspection  ), and he also spotted the change in position for the rear indicators  which surprised me just a bit....but these were both just an *advice* on the inspection sheet and not a fail........you beauty !

Anyway, now the inspection has been done, I will bung 6 months rego on this rig which can run me through until late autumn next year. I have been out and about most of the day, just learning to ride this bike.....it is so long in the wheelbase, but it does have good tyres, so it can be cranked over OK......the suspension especially the rear could use some work though.....

No abnormal engine noises, it accelerates OK as well. The hot-start problem is not fully sorted yet - but the starter motor no longer draws so much current that the earth lead to the battery starts melting !  :?

It also has the most awesome old-school note when you get up it for the rent :kuda: :kuda: :kuda:
