Well the 'COX' radiator guard arrived this morning, so straight into it to get it fitted.

First off, the guard itself is of excellent quality, absoloutley perfect fit for the 2011 ZX10 radiator, but the mounting intructions are a bit on the vague side, so I decided to just mount the guard as per the racers do. The instructions want you to wrap a couple of zip ties aound the top radiator mounts.. but unless you dismantle everything, there is no way you are going to get your hands in and around there.. :?

So with all fairings removed, it is an easy job. I still used the small foam pads spaced evenly all around the guard on the inside, these keep the guard at 5mm clearance from the actual radiator and the fins at all times. I measured up and drilled 3 holes in each side of the guard so I could pass the zip ties through the holes and also through the gap that is at the side of the radiator. This gap allows the ties to go through and pull up tight without even touching any of the cooling fins.. Sits in perfectly and when zipped up there is no way this guard is ever moving. ;)

So that's it. I still feel that I need a taller screen, as the OEM screen seems to flatten off in the middle where it should raise up there a bit more. So I am looking at a Powerbronze screen to replace the stock one. They make them in a tint, plus I feel it will work much better aerodynamically on faster tracks like Phillip Island.. :D

Check the pics.. very neat.. this bike is pretty much done... 8)

not sure about that ..drilling holes in it that is . I fitted a cox to my 10r and other bikes i've had although the holes are tight with the small tabs , it requires a bit of mucking around to fit it, but they work fine and it won't fall off in a hurry either. But Cox do need to make the tabs larger to make it easier to fit them imo.

Good to see it is finished.

Russ, I am more thinking of the 'Zero Gravity' CORSA screen now,

They look excellent without being too high, and their tint is a very light smoke tint, you can easily see though it, similar to or just slightly darker the stock 08 ZX10 screens. Would be more functional at high speed, but also look better on the black bike.. 8)

I am also getting the steering damper re-valved as I found even set on full it doesn't help much.. I mean I dont want to have to depend on it, but if you are gong to have an Ohlins steering damper fitted it might as well work properly..??

And with the radiator guard, the 2011 model does not bolt up to the bottom radiator mount as you would expect.. why they took that bracket away from the guard I dont know.. because it would have made it so much easier.. :? The instructions pretty much cover every other bike except for the 2011 ZX10 even though the guard was marked for the 2011 ZX10.. :?

Geting those zip ties around the top radiator mounts would take a huge effort and very small hands.. so I just simplified the whole mounting process. Incidentally, there is no bracket at all at the bottom of the radiator guard, so I dont know how they expect it to be mounted..? It cant just hang from the top as they describe in the instructions?? I even emailed COX direct asking them the same question over a week ago, but got no reply.. But as I said, the actual construction of the guard is perfect, getting it fitted is up to you..!!

Agreed on the steering dampner. I reakon you really so need it at PI esp coming out of Siberia when your on full throttle and the front end is carrying on like a bitch over that bumpy section just as you heading for the next ripe strip on your left.

Definitely Russ..

The damper is being done.. Already spoke to Stewy Winton about it.. I think I will get it done at the track on the 22nd of August when we go back to the island.. I also forgot to upload some pics of my home made 'shark fin' toe guard as well.

I have also gone up 1 more tooth on the rear (now +3) as this bike is so highly geared. So now it is basically the same as dropping a tooth at the front. I had a spare alloy sprocket, so I thought I should use it. I will test it out again at Broadford on the 14th...but it should help a bit more. ;)

And also waiting on the 'Zero Gravity' CORSA screen as well. That will not only look better in the light smoke tint, but also help with better aerodynamics.. You will need one too when you get your 2011 ZX10 Russ, cause I am having trouble tucking under the stock screen..

SO after these mods I can call the project totally finished..?? are they ever totally finished..? :? But one thing is for sure... I really love this bike...!!

Hi all.. (again)

Sorry this thread is really dragging out  , but I have the new 'Zero Gravity' screen fitted now.. It is a huge change from the stock !! Where the stock screen is wide and low in the middle, the new screen is slimmer and taller in the middle. I am still coming to terms with the extra height in the middle, but it is definitely going to be much easier to tuck in under. A real bonus for the fast tracks like PI.. ;)

So here are the final pics.. I really do like the light smoke tint against the black bike.. really looks stealth. It is not as dark as it looks in the pics, more so like a light pair of sunglasses.. very easy to see through..

Back at the track (Broadford) this Sunday (14th) and then back to the island next Monday (22nd) I have got all the foot and hand controls set up now, just have to get used to the new gearing and see how we go..!!

Well the 'Zero Gravity' screen was the best of the lot I could find.. as some of the other screens where hideous..

And even still I have had to get this screen custom modified slightly.. (I had the middle section trimmed approx 30mm as it really protruded back..??) Now it looks perfect with just the right amount of headroom...

Off to Broadford tomorrow for hopefully a great dry track day with lots of mates.. :D

Track Updates later..

Fantastic day at Broadford...!!

Great weather, great mates and getting faster all the time... However the blue ribbon for the day goes to 'Triway' on his BMW, as he beat my time today by 7 tenths of a second..!! So the Beemer wins today..

I have the gearing set (well it's a compromise for Broadford but works well).. the whole bike felt so settled today.. set a PB, knocking 1.7 secs off my best time set on my 08 ZX10R... CAnt wait to get to the island to really open up this babies lungs.. ;)

The chain guard at the rear is more of a safety issue.. however it is a requirement for racing.. in the case of a crash, it is supposed to deflect your feet / hands/ toes away from the chain and sprockets...
