depending on how well i know the guy, i'd either call him a pussy and give him the thumb on forehead gesture or throw him a look and walk away.
i dont dig blokes (not in that manner) who let their wives decide whether they ride or not.
they need to get a bike and then find themselves a new woman. or stick to mrs palmer.

I think "sucks to be you" or "grow some balls you great homo f$%ker and stop whinging to me until you do" would be the best

Hmmm although this could also explain why I am still single

Shifty wrote:Oh and a lot of this comes from stereotypes too. the only things they hear about bikes are on the news about rider killed, the 'shorts' in the sport section which invariably puts on all the crashes, seeing people ride like idiots (because we all know they don't see people minding their own business)... so they automatically assume you are an idiot and that you will crash/die/spontaneously combust.
Had an ex like that, said that if we got married she was going to make me stop riding, and if i DID keep riding i was going to die and make her a widow, but more importantly "she would forgive me for it"
Shifty wrote:Easily solved by taking said girl for a ride on the bike early in the piece, in a very sedate manner... a nice short ride to the movies or something via a local lookout... then a short ride in the hills one afternoon to a cafe that isn't too far away (don't want to make them tired/sore/cranky).
I did exactly that, and combined with the fact that wifey agree's with the "everyone has to have something" along with "what's yours before you get together is yours, and everything afterwards is up for discussion", two sentiments i agree with whole heartedly. Also she is happy with me riding and has suggested that when a bub comes along and she is on maternity leave, i can use that as transport to work while she takes the car to do whatever needs doing, which i am happy to go along with.
Shifty wrote:Or, teach 'em to ride and they'll love you for it :)
Mine is a good driver (i think better than me) and doesn't want to ride because of other idiots on the road, but is willing to go on the back of my bike, go figure  .

[edit]Holy shit i just realised this was a grave dug thread, oops[/edit]

Just what is the correct response when blokes say "I'd love a bike / I had a bike years ago, but my wife / girlfriend / ball and chain / handbrake / missus / insert euphemism here / won't let me"
If I was you I would say... "They are right, thats why I made my husband sell his bike."

It is important not to smile when you say this... and carefully watch the conflicting thoughts flicker across their face as they ponder that statement....
The world is round. It has no point.

i get tons of 'bikes are insta-death machine' statements....
i usually give them a weird look...add a sarcastic smile...and change topic of discussion. 8)

Good thing my Mrs has no problem with me riding, she loves the motorbikes herself..and would love to have one of her own someday.

My ex-wife would never even consider me riding a bike (yes -thumb-print on forehead, def pussy whipped). She then married a guy who had a couple of bikes - 2 years into marriage they are both gone (bwhahahahahahaha)

Now tho I've found someone who's willing to have a go as a pillion :D :D :D :D :D
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!

I think that a simple altermatim works best. Agree with the missus. If you have to give up meeting up with your friends and enjoying your chosen pastime then she has to give up meeting with her friends and her pastime (ie probally shopping, she most likely has 2 or more bikes just hanging in her wardrobe). She will either leave right there and then, give you a reason to ask her to leave or back down. Win-Win-Win in my eyes.

I also hate the "Bikes are death traps" statement. Everytime I hear that statement I throw back "How many people do you know that have died on motorbikes and how many do you know have died in car crashes??" Most of the time it's more people in cars. With cars they are more likely to be multiple deaths or injuries. All I say is that I know the risk and I do everything in my power to make sure I come back from every ride in 1 piece.
Run what ya brung...............make damn sure you brung enough!!!

I thought about this thread last night in Woolies - interestingly the other way around, with the check-out chick enquiring into bikes and riding them and then fessing to wanting to ride one etc (ad nauseum); so I said "why don't ya" (got to say something, can't be rude hey) and she replies that she "can't cause she's a mummy's girl" - which I figured strange as she looked way more than 18 - maybe they all stay home longer nowadays...

Back off. Let the younger generation enjoy some debauchery. You've had your share. And screw you for being lazy if you haven't :D
See here, young man,
From Walgett to the sea,
From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh,
There's none can ride like me.
