Shifty wrote:Oh and a lot of this comes from stereotypes too. the only things they hear about bikes are on the news about rider killed, the 'shorts' in the sport section which invariably puts on all the crashes, seeing people ride like idiots (because we all know they don't see people minding their own business)... so they automatically assume you are an idiot and that you will crash/die/spontaneously combust.
Had an ex like that, said that if we got married she was going to make me stop riding, and if i DID keep riding i was going to die and make her a widow, but more importantly "she would forgive me for it"
Shifty wrote:Easily solved by taking said girl for a ride on the bike early in the piece, in a very sedate manner... a nice short ride to the movies or something via a local lookout... then a short ride in the hills one afternoon to a cafe that isn't too far away (don't want to make them tired/sore/cranky).
I did exactly that, and combined with the fact that wifey agree's with the "everyone has to have something" along with "what's yours before you get together is yours, and everything afterwards is up for discussion", two sentiments i agree with whole heartedly. Also she is happy with me riding and has suggested that when a bub comes along and she is on maternity leave, i can use that as transport to work while she takes the car to do whatever needs doing, which i am happy to go along with.

Mine is a good driver (i think better than me) and doesn't want to ride because of other idiots on the road, but is willing to go on the back of my bike, go figure
