project to replace my ZRX

Post by chris41 »

After my ZRX was burnt in the Newcastle Kawasaki fire I went through the leftover racebike parts and started to put this GPZ1100 together to get back on the road.
Motors done so hopefully wont be long now

The Start, GPZ1100B1 frame and bottom end, Bandit front end , XJR swingarm. 5.50 GSXR750 rear wheel
Image
My mate Rick made the caliper hanger. and torque arm left over from his ttr600 motard, welding the repositioned shock mounts and machining the pivot down to fit. and heaps of other stuff.

Worlds coolest clock '[:)]'

clean the cases up
Image
paint em and chase the threads for heavy duty Cylinder and crank studs
Image

Image
Dial the cams in for hopefully some good mid to top end
Image
Ready to Rock and or roll, 1166 Arias Pistons, mildly ported B2 head and Cams
Image

Image
After rego I hope to put on some carbon look twin headlights
and recess the rear stoplight in flush with an LED setup and mini blinkers. Lawson seat cover and carbon hugger as well
Image

Solid engine mounts from the parts bin, hope the vibes aren't too bad on a road bike
Image
I butchered a brake side rear set off (I think) 91 GSXR750 roller I bought off ebay just for the wheels and copied it for the gearshift side
Image
Rick made the pegs and welded the ankle rest on
Image
I don't know if anyone has done this B4 but to make some
engine mounts quick I just marked em out drilled the holes
sandwiched them between two pieces of pine on the line
used one of thse flap discs on the grinder then draw filed them
too easy

Every things apart now frames getting blasted then I'll paint it up

Tail section eventually will be a stock tail piece with a flush mounted led taillight, seat will have a Lawson cut out and cover, duck tail and lighting fixed to seat unit, and a GSXR seat lock underneath so it all comes off in one piece when I put the carbon hugger on I will replace the plastic inner guard with an aluminium infill and move and what electrical components I can to behind the battery box to make it cleaner, thinking (dreamin) about fabricating a battery box out of titanium flat bar.
Carbs are mechanical flat-slides so yes I will be using pods more than likely BMC twin pods .
At the moment I'm keen to just get it regoed and do some riding,
Frame wont be blasted till end of next week, so don't have much do do on it atmo

VERY NICE, just my sort of rocket. SORRY to hear about the REX being cremated though.

I like the XJR swingarm conversion, much involved to fit it up?

Bugger about the rexcremation, that phone call must have raised an eyebrow.

Nice work, what colour scheme are you going for?
