scooters with there t-shirts and shorts arrrgh

Post by andew »

i was just wondering what were the rules for scooter riders for clothing protection? :? coz i was in Richmond the other day and i couldn't help but i noticed at least 20 scooters around there and not one of them was wearing kevlars or leathers but they were wearing shorts and t-shirts :?
but yet about 2 months ago i went for a ride a whole 2km and i decided not to wear my jacket for the first time but i still wore my kevlar pants and i got pulled over by the cops!!!!! WTF!!!!! :x can anybody let me know? also im sick of seeing guys on big bikes gixxers usually riding with shorts and t-shirt. and we wonder why our rego and insurances are sooo high these days. arrrgh
does anybody else see this or am i alone on this one?

Seeing squids all the time they seem to be more rampant these days, Andrew just keep wearing your gear & don't worry about them, as they will quite possibly come unstuck & learn the lesson the hard way.

Not clear on the reason you were pulled up ? Did you do something wrong ?

As far as I'm aware, there are no regs. regarding protective clothing in NSW.
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

To ride "legally" you must wear an Aus standards approved helmet, that's it, full stop, period, no if's buts or maybe's, that is what you "need" to wear to ride legally, if you go out and ride buck naked with a helmet on you might well get busted for indecent exposure but that's got bugger all to do with the bike.

So to answer your question, the scooter riders, the gixxer riders and indeed you without your jacket are riding with all you need to legally wear assuming you have a lid on.

See here http://www.mravic.org.au/forum/modules/ ... oryid=1677 for a letter from the TAC and some responses in regards, it's an ongoing issue the MRA Vic and the TAC have with each other, not that we don't agree with protective clothing, but reducing liability payments due to it on a no fault insurance scheme is just plain wrong!

no different to m/c riders mate - heaps of scooter tramps up here also ride around the CBD in tees and shorts. At the low speeds they do in the CBD streets, they are only going to loose as much skin as a treadlie rider would if they fell off......

There are a thousand views about squidding - there are the ATGATT crowd, who fully suit up for a 3-minute ride to the shops, and then you get the clowns like laidback has mentioned - on the Hume on an R1 in shorts and t-shirt ...

Its your choice and your skin on the line - for a 5-minute ride up to the shops and back, I think *nothing* of just jumping on the bike in shorts and thongs. For a 10-minute ride down to the local mall, which involves travelling on some dual-lane carriageway - its a leather jacket and proper shoes everytime, no matter how hot it gets. There is a time and a place for squidding......and a time not to squid.

If you take the gamble , you have to be prepared to loose sometime.......... perhaps not every hand, but eventually you'll loose a hand. :(

People in Thailand seem to be very happy to ride in shorts and thongs. usually no helmet, no gloves, often no shirt either. I even rode around in shorts and T-shirt while there. It's too fucking hot. But, we didn't do over 60kph very often! Over here in Oz, I like to have minimum a good pair of jeans, like Diesel, Cippo and Baxx, or a good pair of FCUK's on, with a pair of Vans Runners and an Ed Hardy T! I feel safe then! :D

Thats crazy, I would have like to heard his reasoning for pulling you over
