I think i'm a fairly competent rider and definately wise enough in years to not be trying to out ride the Mick Doohan's of the world, or even the wannabe Mick Doohan's, happy to go out and have a fang and ride home at the end of the day instead.
That's a fairly typical selfish outlook from an 'un-rider'. MY bike is only worth $xxx so I'II take MY chances. What about MY car that you might hit? Your average Falcodore these day will put you in the shit for around $40k, so you only need to hit some sales rep out on the road and you are in it! The insurance lady mentioned above didn't talk about the $20p/w for the rest of your life because it's uncommon. It's VERY common.

I'm full comp, always have been even when it cost me a fortune when on my P's. But if i had a worthless POS I may consider 3rd party/property.

+1

After much typing I decided to delete what I spent my time carefully phrasing. In any case, I generally find that people without insurance have shitboxes, that they dont look after.

well i play it safe and have all my stuff full comp. its worth more to me so sorta sentimental to myself but i would hate to have the worst happen and not be covered. I'm more worried about the motogp riders getting around thinking they just won the championship and ride dangerously in a pack.

You are fukin kidding me Mick, I hope you at least have third party to cover someone else?

Is it normal policy for responsible MRA riders to not have insurance to at least cover other parties?

I'll ride with most people as long as they ride safely (ish) but if you fukin cause an acco and I'm not covered by your insurance, I don't give a fuk who you are I'll extract the compensation somehow :x

Happy New Year Cheers

so you mean 3rd Party Property?...not just ctp?
Yea 3rd party property!

I would feel like a dick if i damaged someone elses bike and couldnt afford to fix it!

I prefer to choose who I ride with based on how they ride, not wether or not they have insurance....

If they ride like a fuckwit, then I couldn't give 2 shits if they were insured to the hilt, I will either wait for them to piss of out the front, or that bike dissapearing off into the distance will be me.

Seriously, would any of you guys *not* ride with someone like, say , Marty, if he had no insurance ?? He is one of the best riders out there, the experience of riding with him ( or at least trying to keep the bastard in sight  ) is just fantastic. Same thing can be said of riders like Phil or Russ, Wattie, Glen - any of the regular WSB punters. Or heaps of other riders here......

BTW - the MFP12 was only insured for the first 2 years of its life - I had no choice, it was compulsory. I only run ambo cover and 3rd party property on the Prado these days. Insurance is not for *everyone* , we all have a choice in stuff like this. I choose not to pay exorbitant premiums on the off-chance that I will have a prang.......each to their own.

I really don't understand people who say they won't ride with an uninsured rider if they have insurance themselves :? .....

Maybe one of you could enlighten me as to why?....If you yourself are fully covered why would it matter....

I'm fully covered so I couldn't GAF if anybody is or isn't who I ride with as I know I'm covered either way......

How man uninsured car's do you ride alongside on the road everyday?

yeah good point.
it's more the riders attitude/actions that decide for me. the actual question of insurance never really comes up.

No comprehensive stay away? Why would you care if someone can repair their own bike or not?!! Sure if they can cover you then everything is good? I really don't understand the logic there...

Well said Gos.
I've been reading through this thread trying to work out the connection between rider ability v full comp insurance.
Hmmm maybe i have this wrong but based on the posts so far if say you are a new rider who rocks up on a brand new gsxrzxcbrr....whatever with all the gear & no idea wobbling into the meeting point but has full comp insurance thats ok. Next guy rocks up who has been riding for the last 20 + years & could ride rings around the average punter but has no insurance....umm sorry mate we don't wanna ride with you.

Kings original post stated "Both were young guys with no insurance (I would read that as meaning no insurance at all) and both came off because they were riding too fast" so If one of these turkeys was to hit you & you only had 3rd party you are basically screwed.
My comments were about not having any insurance at all...... you would be crazy to hit the streets without 3rd party anyway...IMHO
Gos you got it....... each to their own, but it does not matter how good you are, accidents can still happen & if I am going to risk 10K worth of bike that I would struggle to replace, I want peace of mind ........gos god forbid you dont happen to scratch Lara Bingles Aston Martin, have you got the cash to settle with her or would you just charm your way out of it

Like Gos says (very well) it's more about rider ability. As a noob I have learnt a lot by riding with more experienced riders but mostly staying within my ability and at times that means getting left behind. I think the biggest lesson is learning what your limits are and staying within those until your ability improves.

I have full comp and in my policy I don't loose anything if I'm not at fault and can identify the "at fault' party. Getting taken out by some turkey is far worse than having to make a claim on your own insurance. :kuda:
