well, it depends whether you are saying just let people off every time or assess each instance, given the later I would say 3 & 7.aardvark wrote: Just out of interest, which of these offences, where no one is hurt, should police use their discretion and let people off:
I'd be interested to hear (or read) peoples opinions.
7 for the reasons laidback1952 wrote. 3, well, I know you're in HWP so let me give an example, on most of the motorways around sydney, if you're doing 110 you will have a truck, bus or car sitting about 1m from your rear bumper so frankly I'd rather do 120 with all the rest of the traffic and get a bit of space obviously if the rest of the traffic were doing 110 or less and I was doing 120, can't really argue about getting a ticket then.
as for 4 & 5 if your talking about having the phone glued to their ear rather than hands free, i wouldn't complain if you just shot them by the side of the road, same goes for texting.
As for speeding in school zones, I commute through 2 on the way to work on the bike, if I happen to be passing through between 8 & 9:30 I always slow to 40, however I know some day I will become a hood ornament on shitheads 4WD or merc as at least 50% of the time you will have one of these about 10cm from the rear wheel, frequently leaning on the horn and/or shouting abuse out the window.
Cheers
Matt
