fair point bucko, you mind me askin what you weigh in at? and how do you find the suspension on the GS500? My housemate decided on a 250 despite my haranguing (did I spell that right?) him to go a bigger bike, and I'm frankly sick of arguing with him over it  This has been an epic learning curve thus far and I'm a long way from expert on the topic - he's even less informed. Any advice appreciated, and I'll always listen to a good argument... just not random guff ;)

Strika the Hyosung, Suzuki and Kawasaki LAMS approved bikes are illegal to de-restrict, even after you have a full licence... Lot of money to spend on a throw-away bike that has less power-to-weight ratio than a cheap and nasty 250. and even if you could find someone to do it on the low-low, a new ECU to bring it up to non-LAMS factory spec costs 1500 quid plus manhours... There's also very few available for sale unless buying new, and a very restricted market to sell into when he gets his real bike licence.

I'm cracking my LAST BEER for the evening, rollin another fag then calling it a night. Will tune in again tomorrow night, thanks for all input :)

MY WEIGHT????!!!!! Hmmmm

68kg. :kuda:

Suspension is great for me. There's preload on the back to set the rear ride height once you're sitting on the bike, that's it as far as adjustment goes.

Here's a forum for it.

HA! scrawny bastard, you barely weigh more than me!!!! Hrmm... I'll consider the GS with that in mind :P Imagine 2 of you and a carton of beer, and that's where we'll start considering whether the suspension is workable... Ugh, I *have* to get to sleep! J.

Qld LAMS list is different to other states- lotsa bikes from other states such as pre-2010 Hyosung 650s are out in QLD. SV650 is too.
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Just a couple of stats I have looked up...not sure of accuracy but gives you an idea...

2008 Ninja 250 - No HP found but 22Nm @ 10,000RPM
2005 Yamaha XVS650 - 29Kw @ 6,500RPM / 51Nm @ 3,000RPM

Maybe worth riding some options at dealers for second hand bikes just to get a feel for something like these...should be able to get a test ride of S/H bikes... :kuda:

Yep, the KLR is a great bike - are they on the Qld LAMS list?

They are also VERY capable on long distances, comfy and can carry the weight no problem.

Not a 2fidy though. The one question I have is what is going on in the m,inds of the dimwits that thought"gee this LAMS scheme work well in every other state - we should bring it in here......and then delete half the bikes off it" :?

Yeah gotta say I was thinking a chook chaser/motard would be far more suited to "a big bastard" than something like the GPX/ZZR 250 kinda thing.. and if ya can get it in 650cc LAMS approved even more betterer.
