To run or not to run!!

Post by Hugo :o) »

Hi, I have held my l's for 1 month and have purchased an 09 250 ninja (new). My question is, how important is it to stay below 6000rpm during the 1st 1600kms. If i give the bike a thrash here n there, will it damage the motor?

Hi Hugo, welcome to KSRC :D
Don't get too concerned, the bikes are tested on a dyno before being crated , she's already been thrashed.
Seriously just don't go banging off the rev limiter & you will be fine, the chances of doing damage are fairly minimal unless you are doing crazy revs.

Hey dude I have had my ninja from new, like Rob said don't get to concerned, as long as your not thrashing it and red lining it you'll be fine, there are so many different opinions some say you should ride em hard in and others say ride em like miss daisy, what I say, just go easy you don't have to be over cautious but don't go thrashing it either. The ninja's rev pretty hi anyway so don't get freaked out if your sitting around the 6-7 rpms, you'll notice after about 1000km on it it gets a bit more power and that's when you can start giving it a bit more.

There are few others on here with the ninjas so they'll be able to give their input to.

Hey velcome though to the most awesome place and people in the universe. :kuda: :kuda: :kuda:

Vary the RPMs and let the engine warm up and you're set.

I used to run things in easy but now subscribe to the ride it hard method. A 20 minute hard scratch (after warming the engine) through a windy road followed by an oil change, then avoid freeways and flog it for the next thousand k's. It makes more sense and is far more fun. 8)

Yeh from factory they have to be tested to make sure the rev limiter works. I've had mine since October and did 12k service on it today and it hasnt skipped a beat. I basically got told if you get into them not over doing it you can get more power from them if true or not i dunno.
If you give it some mumbo it could help the motor bed in properly. But dont worry bout it too much the thing wont blow up on ya :kuda:
