Advice Needed from the ZX7R guru's ....

Post by Gosling1 »

Can anyone who knows there way around a ZX7R help with this *odd* issue ??

One of the boys on CanberraRIDERS has a very weird problem on his ZX7R.....

In the #2 plughole, there seems to be some sort of solid wire that looks like it 'appears' from inside the plughole (above the top of the plug) - winds its way around the plughole for a couple of turns, and then it ends, pointing straight 'up' the plughole...

Old mate has given the wire a bit of a nudge with some needle-nose pliers, but it seems pretty well lodged in there....

Normally, I would suggest that it was a helicoil repair that had gone wrong - but in this case, its 'way' above the level of the plughole to be a helicoil ( at least for the plug..) - the wire is solid, not copper-wire type stuff - it almost looks like a fine-grade oxy-welding wire to me ?? :? :?

Do these bikes have any sort of sensor which is located in the #2 plug hole ?? I'll grab a photo and bung it up here shortly - any help would be much appreciated - old mate doesn't want to stuff anything up by just reefing it out, and this wire is lodged good and tight ??

cheers

I doubt it's factory Gos. My memory isn't that flash, but all the same I don;t recall any foreign objects being in the plug holes of 7R's! 8) I reckon yr on the money with a helicoil repair botched!!!!

I've got the 96' road version, nothing there and the WSBK version with all the 2D data telemetry and nothing there.
Nothing like that on the 89' model either.

sorry mate

Thanks for posting this up Gos, it's still a bit of a mystery though  We're going to stick a new air filter in it this weekend so I'll have another squiz at it at the same time, i'll also try to get a decent photo and give it a good poke to see if I can really figure out what it is. I don't think it has anything to do with the plug, looks like something that has been pushed through the wall of the plug hole (don't ask me how) and there is nothing like it in any of the other plug holes. I'll let you know if I figure it out :D
