you pinched Neka's login Mel?

Back on topic, there is a freedom associated with motorcycling that can't be repeated in a car, not in an F1 car, not in a rally car etc etc.

Besides Golf is stupid and the shoes are pharkin horrble. I hate golf. I used to have a sticker on my trailer which said "because golf courses should be motocross tracks". Have I mentioned I hate golf....
GOLF is for old men who can't FLOG anymore. only bowling shoes are more hideous too...

Best thing is it has got nothing to do with anyone else ... just you having a good time. Doesn't matter if you are a hero or a nerd.
If you fuck up it's your fault otherwise you feel really good as though you dont deserve this much fun.
Every time I go out on my bike I think yippee like a little kid except I'm 6 foot & not a little kid

My audience are my fellow soon-to-be teachers and the lesson outcomes for this part is for them to see and appreciate a part of the motorcycling community. For them to try and gain an appreciation as to why some of us do what we do, and also to see that we aren't all a bunch of yahoos, but are safety conscious people who calculate things before proceeding. As far as assesment is concerned... How do you really assess whether someone believes you when you say you're not a menace to society?? The assesment portion will primarily be based around the practicality of choosing entry points (and therefore gearing and speed), paths through a corner and exit points. So really introductory stuff that can theoretically be applied to cars as well. I get my marks from evidence of my reflective practices after the lesson. It's just an intro thing seeing as I've been at this for all of 4 days now :? .

Yep, every time I'm on a bike, even when commuting sensibly, I feel like I'm lucky to be able to experience this. Not lucky that I haven't died or been injured, just lucky that I get to ride.

Sorry lifeofcrimeguy, I was assuming it was part of your practicum and wanted to ensure you were providing a lesson that had a functional purpose. It sounds like an activity to give you public speaking practice early in the course and clearly most of my advice is useless to you for this lesson. Reflective practices are an essential component of good teaching so focus on that and give a relaxed presentation. :)

For what it's worth, I ride because I love the sensation of speed and balance. I'm a thrill seeker and can use my bike to gain the sensory input I seek everyday. Besides, trafic jams are a waste of life. :)

Good luck with the DipEd. We sure as hell need more good teachers so I hope you enjoy and succeed with it. This will be my eighth year in the field and I still look forward to going to work. Teaching is harder than most realise but also a lot more rewarding than you'd think. :)

Thanks mike-s for the vidoes. And thanks everyone for the responses. It really gave me a good way to find some common themes amongst us all and surprisingly they managed to come up with most of the same themes. They were completely awed by watching Stoner in Japan and an R1 on Putty. They were really enthusiastic about understanding motorcycling culture and didn't even mention any of the negatives that I hear from most people like calling us all speed demons and arguing over lane splitting at lights and stuff. One savvy person even asked about differing views on safety legislation like helmets and hard-wired lights, comparing enthusiasts like ourselves with the clubs like Gypsy Jokers and Bandidos and stuff. So well done everyone, and who knows, maybe we got a few more people buying bikes in the coming months.
