Post by Gibbo88 »

I was just wondering what petrol everyone used and recmomended, so i thought id try a handy-dandy poll.

I like to say that i have3 motorbikes, cause a Sierra really is only 2 bikes stuck together.

I use whichever, but usually i pop premium in as it only costs a couple dollars more per tank. The high octane stuff i usually dont bother with unless i want to flush the injun out a bit :)

Premium for me and preferably 98 unless I can't get it. Not really fussed about which brand even the dreaded Optimax which I've always run at Eastern Creek and never had a prob. It has fouled a plug on a WR 426 though so who knows.

I used to be a High Octane man, but now I just do as the manufacturer intended and use premium 95, as the high octane shit is too expensive.

I can live with 171.32hp instead of 172.89hp.

When I was doing a lot of commuting I always used 95 - didn't need the extra bit of grunt from the 98 and $/Km 95 was better. The I used 98 when I went playing in the twisties.

Since I stopped commuting on the bike and have the 10 it's almost always has 98 in it, except where it's not been available. (2 tank fulls in 4000k)

I steer clear of Shell, prefer BP but use Mobil as well

Premium, although on "poor days" I chuck some ULP in..... but I try never to run more than one tank of ULP in a row... before moving back to PULP

I just run standard cheapo unleaded... seem to get slightly better kms out of it over the premium with no difference in how it runs. Bike runs terribly on the 98 stuff.

I use high-octane in the 10 because that is what it is designed to take. Like I said in the other thread, the GPX250 doesn't have the compression ratio and timing for high-octane and will run just as well, or most likely better, with regular unleaded.

The old Z650+ has regular in it for that reason.

You talking about 100 octane? Im pretty sure the 10 is made for 97 octane, rather than 100 octane...

Nope, the 98 stuff...I took the poll to be referring to Unleaded(93), Premium(95) and High-Octane(98 ). The 10 is designed to take a minimum of 95, so for 98 is playing it safe. It is a much more highly tuned engine than a GPX250 or the Z650+.

....and don't make me pull out my graph of my logs showing fuel economy versus octane rating used

I just use standard unleaded, i was told to get my fuel from woolworths servo's because they go through so much fuel with their discounts you can be pretty sure they have good clean fuel.

Having said that, i only use mobil cause i have a mobil card with a good discount on it.
