30 years and 100 000 km's

last time i worked out it would take over 30 years to do 100,000kms

Mine passed it about 3 weeks ago. It's now about 2k into it's second turn.

See Andrew in spares at Brighton Kwak, his 1990 ZZR1100 has somwhere near 240 000 kms and is still going strong. Has had a gearbox and I think at least one clutch rebuild but topend and all else still original.
In this day and age of technology and engineering capabilities why do people aplaude a motorcycle reaching 100 000 kms? And why do we still consider a bike with 25 000 kms to be slightly suspect on the used market? Sure I know that the engines and components of todays machinery is cutting edge and and as lean as prize fighter when it comes to performance but still I expect for the money spent at least 100 000 kms until major a component needs attention. Then again Hardley Done anythings have had 100 years of development and their owners aplaud everytime they reach the end of the street without needing a rebuild.
