Yeah Lisa, don't worry. It isn't JUST girls that get ignored...us professional types who wash, shave, and wear clothes without holes in them tend to get treated with disdain and contempt by most bike shops.

But if any 19 year old comes in with no credit, no rating, and no money then the sales guys swoop on them...

hm coupla things there..i must agree with u, and as salesman, with previous
bike experience, ill give u my point of view.

1.your right, women shouldnt b neglected, or treated as dipshits (even tho
they DO deserve it ;p), but 90% of women who walk thru the door at a bike
dealer really dont have a clue abt bikes...the amount of times i spoke to
women & they said "im just here with my boyfreind/husband/sugardaddy" etc &
really didnt wanna chat was ..umm ..lots..
2. Often when u approach a woman and greet them nicely they get offended cos
they thing ur hitting on them , especially if there attractive (i kno that
approaching them with my dick in my hand would be a give away..so i didnt do
that...much)
3.When u approach a lady & speak t her politely the
hubby/boyfreind/sugardaddy takes offence and thinks ur all over his woman...
4. TRADITIONALLY (right or wrong) its always been the men who do business,
and the women who tag along to make the men look like we're not total
lossers...
On the 2nd point, really its not ur business how much sum1 makes out of a
sale is it?? and they shouldnt have to tell u how much. I personally take
offence to ppl looking over my shoulder at my costings , cos often price
lists arent 100% accurate, u might get rebates, or extra charges (delivery
etc) which ppl dont think of...im sure u wouldnt like everyone knowing ur
monetry dealings.
And lets face it, if they dont make a profit, they dont stay in
business.They have to pay over heads etc.There not a charity.
Another thing..there is no law that says u must give discounts!! often it
will b decided by the customer...if the person i deal with is polite &
freindly, they get a discount..if i want to..if there rude,obnoxious or piss
me off i add to the price a "smart ass" tax, and if they dont like it, i
dont sell to them...
Personally i WILL pay more for good service...theres a known guy in adelaide
who is known as having the cheapest prices, but hes a rude arrogant prick,
so id rather pay $20 more & b treated with respect (not that i deserve it),
but it makes me all warm & fuzzy inside when sum1 knows my name, and uses
it....
as for girls on bikes....lets get more of em i say!! but prefferably hot
young single ones who like to root male riders & arent to fussy or have ne
morals ;-P
sorry my rant is so long, but i actually had to stick up for my fellow
salesman...

What's that you're defending neka? The salesmans code of honour?

But you have a point (dang, twice I have to agree with neka) about pricing. If most people knew what it actually costs to be able to run a decent sized shop, well frankly they'd be amazed at how expensive it actually is.

That said, there is always room to move, but what you need is some way to motivate the salesman.

Neka i luv that summary and the most important point you made was more rootable bike chicks............."CLASSIC" mate .

As far as accessories go have bought a bit of gear through Pro Honda(Rocklea Brisbane).................helmet/gloves/SIDI Boots. They usually give a nice discount on bigger price items if you ask. My last purchase there i got a pair of SIDI Vertebrae boots for $440 when sticker price was $470($30 discount).

My experiences with bike salesmen is yet to come when the day comes to buy a new bike.

Sometime over the new year period i wanna do a litre bike comparo .

Jezas Neka did someone hit a nerve or something ????. To be that long in one go must of took some concentration, as for more lady riders if you keep posting so elloquently I'm sure they be logging in by the Bus load. I'm sure we all appreciate that people are trying to make a living outta bike shops which is the "Only" reason i havent frequented Mick at goodna as he works outta his backyard & i dont think thats good for the local Bike industry. As a fellow salesperson (flooring) I totally agree with Neka, & it can get frustrating when people ask for discounts eg:pensioner discounts when the people are old yes, but they own half the town or several million dollar properties etc etc & you see the 100k Crusier parked in front of the shop. Geez I understand some people being tight with money, but not miserable.

Also as Neka said, I think you have to pay for good service, because if you don't, why the hell am I going to be nice to you? It's simple pay me a little more money which give better profits for the store which in a perfect world will mean the NICE salesperson will get paid more.
Probably doesn't happen thou, well not to me.

And another thing it's not what it costs, it's what you can get for it.
This was told to me by a friend who isn't a salesperson, but makes alot of money on the side from various stuff. (Not drugs)

I have bought from Robbie at Midtown and overall i was pretty happy with the way things went. The blue ZX6R had just been traded in that day and he even showed me the paperwork of the trade and he was only making $400 by selling it to me, which was fine by me. It is a businessa after all and they gotta make some profit. Anyway the price was damm good. I got the guy's number (coz the bike had been in the Trading Post earlier) and i was able to get a full service history and suss out how the bike had been used. As for servicing, I took my 636 into Midtown and 2nd time at Whales, only for the sake of maintaining the warranty. Service was pretty blaze, who know's wtf they did. Now that Im on an bike with no warranty left, I do my own servicing, everything except for brakes and tyres and for them I go to Conrad, on the S Bend in moss street. Speaking of tyres...Pilot Powers are the shit

i actually now get abt $3 an hour ABOVE award (not much i know, but $100 a
week) just because of my customer service & the fact since ive been there
the boss had a lot of nice feedback abt my customer service...also why the
manager who hired me was demoted to our small store & i now run the bigger
store after only 4 months there..she wasnt happy...
also a good salesman will sell based on a product,and wot u get for ur
money, not just on a price..ne1 can b a cashier, but could u b a good
salesman??
Another point to make is the more money i make, the more my boss makes,
therefore the happier my boss is, the better he treats me, the more fun i
have at work, and im a good mood & that reflects on treatment of customers..
shits me wen i do a lot of hard work informing a customer of a product, its
features,benefits,drawbacks etc & then they go to another store & buy it
without needing to ask ne questions, all to save $20...
even worse wen uve got a crazy sale on& they try to haggle to save a few $$
& get offended wen u cant do a better price cos ur already cheaper than
every1 in town!!.........
bloody people..i hate em!! arghhhhhhhh

I think he's called Brisbane Motorcycle Tyres and he's about halfway down Moss St just after the 1st bend. He doesnt charge anything for fitting and prices are pretty good. Another good place I forgot to mention is MMM Motorcycles, also on Moss St. Tommy is a great bloke and when i dumped my Spewzuki Across it went in for repair thursday arvo and i picked it up the next day. That included fork + fairing bracket straightening, front brake lever/indicator and mirror replacement. Their labor prices are decent and if there's something Im not confident doin myself thats where I would go. Obviously you wouldnt go there to get new fairing or get warranty work done, because he's a mechanic, not a dealer. but for most other things, cant go past him.

I have to look at this stuff in 2 ways... Part of my job is to negotiate better deals with our suppliers to give my network of 90 odd stores the best chance to make a profit... It really bugs me when I get a reduced purchase price on a range of stuff and the stores go out and straight away drop the retail price!
We have a RRP guide for most of our products but our stores generally set their own prices depending on things like local competition, location etc. Discounts generally come down to the store owners discretion and usually they try ond look after most people... Obviously they add the "Smart Ass Tax" when appropriate. Our biggest hassle is when our stores give a great price to a customer and then they whip out the Pensioners Discount card at the end and get offended why we can't better the price...

It gets worse... As a specialist retailer (batteries), people come to us and get all the information and then go buy the product cheaper from Kmart or Super Cheap! Or worse still, they buy the product from us and then ring as 2 hours later saying we ripped them off cause they just saw they same product cheaper in Kmart...(yeah try and get a 15yo pimply faced kid to tell you the features and benefits of an automatic battery charger)

It all comes down to the relationship between the salesperson and the customer... You get many more good customers than bad but it's that one bad one that ruins your whole day. (that's why i got out of retail!)
