Depends on the definition Vince!! :)
To me, what I want to create, is a razor sharp handling, lightweight sports bike, with a comfy ride position and nice wide bars for power steering on spur roads! :D Which looks simple and is done with quality bits. So if that is what is "My creation" then yeah! :)

If ya going to do it right it needs bling everywhere. Anodised engine bolts, coloured and braided rad hoses (and oil lines). Also, smick swingarm (pref braced) and polished everything

Mike, that is the perfect example of what I'm not going to do. I am really not into all that bling shit. When I speak of quality bits, I'm talking about rearsets, bars, levers, M/Cylinders, calipers, rotors and suspension.

I agree to an extent, but as faired bikes are made to look good with the fairing on, those components hidden underneath often look ungainly. So I'd either tidy them up or aim for a bike that already looks good nakid. The epitomy of a true streetfighter is the height of performance coupled with the best of looks.

That's only your interpretation of a fighter Mike. My interpretation is a little different. Unlike the majority of fighters I see who spend the most amount of time and money on making it look pretty, I am going to make it go stop and handle!!!!

Guess I was into the UK fighter scene for a while, almost had a job with Streetfighter Magazine. Most of the bikes that go through the mag are sorted with 6 pot calipers like Harris or protec, forks would be either sorted or replaced with WP/Showa etc, same for rear shock. Swing arm was usually braced. . Rearsets were the norm (often harris), bar raisers and Renthal bars seemed good. K&N, rejet/remap was standard and most motors had at least the head sorted (Gas flowed, polished, ported etc). They often had big bore kits, high lift cams and bucket valves, balanced crank and racing pistons. Bearings got upgraded, and additional oil lines for better lube. Those dedicated to the art would add turbos and/or nitros and 250 ponies at the rear wheel was not uncommon. I recall a V-Max with GSXR front end, 1400cc with nitros and 350bhp.

While all that was being done, may as well polish a few bits and paint what bodywork was left so the bike is individual. Performance and handling were paramount, but if ya gonna go to that level of detail, may as make it look nice too.

The suspension mods sound tasty. But the rest is a little unnecessary these days Mike! If I use a modern chassis there really isn't a necessity to brace the swingarm, or gas flow te head as 125-140 is way too much power for the rd anyhow. Honda tidied up the blade motor for the Hornet with some simple stainless wire spiral hose. I might follow suit,n paint it a nice kawasaki green, some cool bars, levers,pegs,pipe,screen/cowl,mini belly pan,n some nice instruments. By the time i finish it, i should be ready for something else!!!!
I had a look at a 9 in sydney tonight. Twas nice. But it had a noisy top end. It didn't disapear when it warmed and was consistent with revs so it sound cam related unfortunately. There is an R1 i am going to look at hopefully before i go home.

Mind you the bride is applying pressure to get something with a pillion seat like those on a K1100RT! Would one of those fit a 9? LOL.

...of course some of us have been LUCKY enough to just stack our ZX12R and already have no plastic on it.... 8)

I reckon you are both right, not too wrapped in the bling but as long as everything is off the frame you may as well polish it eh?
Ditto with bits, if they are broke (footpeg mounts in this case) they will be replaced with rear set etc. as about same price anyway.

Bars is the same, prob cost me as much for a set of MX as one clip on !
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD
