Doh! Fairing and left side cover scratched :(

Post by thewonderer »

Not my month, first pulled by the fuz, now some slight damage to the left side fairing and engine cover thanx to re-gritted road and brain in wrong gear.

Luckily this all happened as i was coming to a dead stop when i missed my turning point and decided to stand her up and break. Stopped at the edge of the road where the left over grit was and thats where the bike decided to let the front wheel fold in. Leg was down but could stop it doing a slow motion tip over. All on the north side of mount mee near the bottom.

So I've been looking into getting a NRG side cover to hide the scratches of the engine cover and some sort of T-cut to polish out the scratches.

Scratches are light to medium in depth and i've got some swirl removal polish from supercheap which has just helped get the scratches back a bit.

I've never done anything like this before, so that's why I'm here to get the advice of you fellow bikers who've had to polish up there fairing.

Was thinking of getting some coarser polish (mine is a 2, maybe 5 or 6) and slowly working on it and then finish of with some black turtle wax.

Can you recommend any products for the fairing. Engine casing? Seems the poweder coating has come off... maybe polish it all off to chrome look?!

Cheers,

martin

Just use a little touch up paint to start with as you probably wont notice it after a week anyway. You can always strip it all off later and polish the case if you want. My bike came with some scratches on the fairing and a couple on the tank but I only notice them when I'm waxing her.

Try your local Kwak dealer they do a touch up paint for the casing and the scratches.........elbow grease and lots of it

tippex.. thought that was a bit sus ;)

gonna try and t-cut the scratches out a bit more .. the are mainly 80 grain scratches...

as for the casing, having read a posting about colorrite who do spray cans and stuff that match the casing colour, i think i will sand off the paint and then spray if i can find a good touch paint.

Wondered if the paint will withstand the high temps coming from the engine... must reach at least 150 C... did kwak use a special paint/powder coating??

thanx for the advice!

Seriously but, most paint shops computer colour match anything you bring in (even matches the fading) and can stick it in an aerosol for you too....

Try a ebay shop called cycle therapy i thionk it was i bought a new one for 150 bucks us the case cover that is and it was a brand new part in a factory bag.

Plan b is ring around the bike repairs places in slacks creek and they can make it just like a new one for maybe less than a ebay one.

Is it the left hand side?? If it is leave the remove and replace to a pro because they attached the stator thingingy on the inside of the case with torx screws and glued and tightened them to 3 million foot pound with the kawaski robot lol.

Yeh they where in there seriuously tight and my mechanic snapped one of the bits in half getting them out.

Lucky its black it will be easierto fix the scratches. :D
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

cheers bob... found the ebay shop. US by the looks of it, but no engine covers at the moment. Will see if a sand down and spray will do the job, so will be on the look out for a paint shop that can do the matching on the north side...

Will pick up some t-cut to work on the fairing tomorrow... supercheap has a good choice of things like that...

Good luck getting the kwak on the road again Bob!
