Probably has hit the rev limiter a few times when i missed a gear though. :D

WTF? I set mine to 14000 which is obviously higher than peak power but that way when it comes on I change & it doesn't drop off the sweet spot, well that's my story anyway.

Fibbing on the tacho is fine, but to activily market this "feature" as an advantage over other bikes, thats just wrong on so many levels

Any more levels than claiming a bike weighs 170kg when it actually weighs 196kg, or claiming it to make 180hp when it really makes 155hp?

It's not like Yamaha are making any more of a centrepiece of the R6's new redline than everyone makes of their bike's dry weight or crank hp.

Ultimately, if all Yamaha are claiming for the R6 is the highest-revving engine in the class, they're not actually lying, are they? Even If everyone else didn't fib to the tune of 1,000rpm or thereabouts, the R6's competition, all of which redline at an indicated 15,500rpm, would_still_have lower revlimits than the R6's measured 16,200rpm...

It always raises a chuckle when MotorcycleDaily.com go off on one of their technical tangents, because it shows how little clue they have. How can valve springs cope with such high revs? Does the technology exist?

They invited email responses on the subject; the one in which I pointed out that all four Japanese manufacturers were turning out 4-cylinder, 16-valve 250's with 19,000rpm indicated revlimits in the late 80's went unacknowledged.

who gives a fark how high it revs??
revs doesnt eqaull speed...or handling..or acceleration...

i woulda thought power, weight, torque, suspension were a lot more important...as said here..l250's rev to 19000rpm..but does that make em quicker than a zx10r??

Sure but imagine your bike had exactly the same power, weight and torque as it does right now, but was able to rev an extra 2000 RPM.... It would be a significant change to the way the power was delivered...

That does it. There's no way I'm trading the 10 in on an R6 now

when i think "higher" revs i think....more engine wear..id much rather a motor that doesnt rev as hard delivering same power...it wouldnt be as snappy either i reckon...

Redline aint everything...for me torque = rideability...I dont go around riding near redline everywhere I go, I prefer the power where I will most often use it.

Cheers

PMSL

Whooo....marketing = dribbling shit!!! NEVER!!!! lmao

You know the saying "brouchure printed on sunday sells bikes monday"....

Facts are that numbers are selling a lot of bikes. I see people updating their stead because it has 3 more horsepower and 5 less kilos.....because that will make all the difference to their brains, pity they only ever ride to 5% of their bikes capabilities. I think we have all seen it time and time again people comparing bikes bikes based on numbers, without so much as a sit on any of em...

Maybe they could use a smile-a-meter in their catalogs...ya think that would work??

Cheers

Just caught this on a US site....

My son-in-law bought an R6 a week or so ago. Yesterday he received a letter from Yamaha. Here are some excerpts:

"Yamaha introduced and marketed the new R6 with a red line limit of 17,500 RPM as indicated on the tachometer. After testing production units, we ahve determined that the actual red line limit is approx. 16,000 RPM, resulting in a tachometer error of roughly 9%. This has no affect whatsoever on the performance of the motorcycle.

We are extremely confident that, despite this error, the R6 will more than satisfy you in every way. However, if you are not satisfied with you motorcycle because of this discrepancy, we will repurchase it and will reimburse you the entire purchase price, including setup fees, taxes, or interest that you have paid in connection with your purchase."

Like kitty cats in the litter box. Chris has until March 15th to decide if he wants to keep the bike or not.
