Redhat/Fedora Core 4 Help needed

Post by icebreaker »

Hi Guys,

Hoping to find someone who can assist.

I've just moved all my crap in my study around and finally putting my server to use.

I've set up FC4 and essentially going to be using it as a router for the most part.

I'm using IPTables v1.3.0 through webmin. I've got Nat working but don't seem to be able to work out how to get NAPT (Port Forwarding) to work so I can forward VNC, etc to my desktop PC.

Anyone able to lend a hand?

Thanks

Dan

first an accept rule

port forward 3389 to your internal ip

Is your internal ip dynamic or static?
Use DHCP, to set it statically, via mac address.

You need the accept rule, then the -djnat rule to forward it or something like that. I haven't used it through webmin, I'm usually a console guru.

I assume you have made sure that port 5900 is forwarding? (or port 5800 if you want to use the Java applet)

And I am also assuming that you have allowed it in the firewall and router settings.... (if you have them).....

Its been ages since I used Linux.... If I was sitting in front of it I could probably work it out...

Why dont you enable VNC sothat I can have a look hehehe....
The world is round. It has no point.

The linux box is the router..

It has 2 interfaces. a gigbit eth0 (lan) and a 100mb eth1 (wan) plus the ppp0 which runs through the eth1 to the ADSL modem in bridge mode. The linux box pushes the username and password to exetel. Therefore the only port forwarding to do is on the linux box.

I know what ports I need to forward, etc cause I've been doing it for years and do it for a job. But I've ever had to do it with Linux before hence my call for help.

I've done some googling for iptables and nothing that I've found seems to work for me. I was hoping not to have to install another app simply to do port forwarding.
