do you know a nurse? go thank them
Hey all
I just spent nearly two weeks in hospital, my first really cool experience in an ambulance too! spontaneous pneumothorax knoclked the shit out of me, feels like your having a heart attack but with out the left arm tingle and sweaty part. and with this wonderful suffocating feeling until your able to say "CALL AN AMBULANCE!" thank god there was someone here when it happened.
Morphine, great stuff whoever invented it needs a medal except the part that makes you wanna throw up.
Point of post, whilst I was in hostibubble I saw what our nurses have to put up with, and the state of our states health system, its not good, plus so many people abusing the system to "get a free bed and meal " thanks to litigation laws.
Hospital food, its umm terrible!
So if you are a nurse, I say THANK YOU, you are underpaid and under thanked.
If you know a nurse, go thank them, as their stickers say
we cant live without them.....
Although I did try to name everyone in the Liverpool Hospitals emergency department from the characters in All Saints tv show when they had me under control, still the job they do is so unbelieveable.
Now to find a new occupation, and finding ways to relax, and trying to stay alive.

and its ok, us nurses do what we have to and we do our job because we love it not for the money...
the conditions are bad but the rewards are great. its so rewarding knowing u have helped someone get better and made their stay in one of the worst places you could be, bearable.
lets hope you dont have to go back anytime soon

They are so worth their weight in gold,
I admit being scared shitless about this even thou its srta common thing(to them anyway) They took the time to explain things, unlike the doctors most of whom where overseas people and I couldnt understand what they were saying so Id wait until they left and ask the nurses, what did they just say?
Just a word of advice never call one of them Von (from all saints) no matter how knowledgable or smart she is WITHOUT saying why first!
And thanks for the words guys, been a while since Ive played in here.
Ni time and been too ill last few months

Smitty,
not really, just the vague grouping for the risk group is male, 20-40 yrs, smokes, and no other real reason. One guy in there I saw in xray dept had it appen 3 times and all he did was roll over in bed one day!
The nurses say its not uncommon for this to happen.
Well all I can say its a good wake up call to a) stop smoking (which I ave and havent had ravings after nearly two weeks and b) stop worrying about stuff, nothings gonna happen overnight!
And Ive got heaps more of those sms jokes lol

Marranda (FoxyZX6) is a nurse I believe
Yeah, Marranda is a nurse, and she's in Intensive Care, which is where you probably would have been.
After seeing her stress levels post-work, I have great respect for nurses, and if I need one, I try to make their life easier.

Aaaah...the idealisim of youth....

My girl is a nurse in an emergency dept, and the stories are an eye opener.
Me thinks its the money that stops nurses chucking it in and finding a less stressful job.

I am nine subjects of graduating as an RN and have been studying for 5 years now...the sooner the better! I don't think it is the money, I think it is the vocation. Nursing is a calling, just as teaching is.
.....Well, I'll graduate if I ever get through this flipping assignment....

To be honest the whole health system is full of people like that (with the exception of a lot of the specialists) who are working under crap conditions with inequality of pay from bugger all funding and wondering what the hell they are still doing there. The nurses have the advantage of being part of a fairly militant group who have a bit more leverage than some of the ancillary services.
