ZX7R Sick Engine

Post by elrond »

Well the post-theft damage report on the poor 7 is in and its a mixed bag.

My main concern currently is the awful running of the engine.

The mechanic explained it was running like ass because it had been laid on it side and oil had gotten in somewhere it shouldn't have (I can't recall the component but I'm sure someone knows what I'm referring to).

He said that basically the engine would sort itself out but is this sound advice?

The engine is down on power
Power isn't smooth even when holding the same RPM
Prone to stalling/poor take off
It sounds like a drag car (in a bad way)

Suggestions?

I would be looking at plugs.....
and carbies

lying on its side will fill one of the cylinders with oil
and the plug won't like that..maybe more cylinders too

the carbs which were fine standing right way up may have had some crud
in the bottom of 'em disturbed...so they may need a clean out

otherwise if you have electrics and spark the bits down low
should be fine (unless the thing was run on its sideand then things will get serious...cranks don't like oil starvation)

cheers
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

If the oil level is ok, then I'd look at carbs like everyone has said. Quite possibly dislodged something or screwed up a float level setting or something...
