Cheeky barstages, see what happens when they are under the pump. Yameeha must of designed the system to show rubbish rpm to back up the bogus claims.
Obviously shows they are feeling the pressure of being the low numbers bike of the supersport class.
Good find Phil give em heaps on the show.

 thats just bullshit :x I can't believe that Yamahahahah tried to pull the wool over peoples eyes like that...........

although it wouldn't be the first time that the marketing department got a bit 'excited'..........

back in 1984?ish, whenever the first FJ1100 was released, Yamaha did a huge advertising campaign which would have you believe that the big FJ was fully capable of over 270kmh !!!

what a load of cobblers, on the best day they could barely pull 240-odd... :? :? I'll post the ad up when I find it........ :D

The one i saw at PI seemed to be a fair sort of out of the box track toy kust add tyres of your choice and enjoy and obviously designed to scream its nuts off, probably wouldnt make a good roadie though.

If they have fudged the tacho so the needle says 17500 and its doing 16500 really thats a bit of bs on yamahas part.

I know my tacho has a 15500 redline and no way the bikes ever going to get there but kawi didnt try to bend the truth with it either.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

Sure it will. I've bounced my G1 off the limiter at 15k, at least that's what the tacho said when I looked down.
What a pack of try-hard lying bastages yamacant are. :x

People buy bikes based on the indicated redline? Their advertising department aren't catering for my demographic. It says a lot about those that that might have bought one and are upset by it too.

Anyone had their tacho calibration checked? I know mine is close to 1000rpm out on the limiter. Although any error on a stepper motor tacho or digital display one would be deliberate and there is no hiding behind analogue calibration issues.

greenmeanie i usually have the shiftlight set to 12500 at the track but its not very often i have a chance to look at it and it will rev to 14000rpm no worries i just prefer to be a bit gentler on things peak power is about 13000rpm.

Probably has hit the rev limiter a few times when i missed a gear though. :D

I remember reading a review of Eckl Kawasaki's '99 supersport bike, where they refer to the stock tacho as "wildly innacurate".

All manufacturers fib with their tachos just as much as they do with their speedos. For evidence of this, just have a look at any dyno graph and watch where it nosedives.

Fibbing on the tacho is fine, but to activily market this "feature" as an advantage over other bikes, thats just wrong on so many levels

It's not like Yamahaha are the first to bullshit the press to sell their product. I heard Jaguar fitted the press test E-Type with perspex windows and a highly lightened chassie to achieve the claimed 150MPH. I'm sure it's something every manufacturer does on a regular basis
