NSW P's test

OK after a few months on L's.... Sat is d day for my P's test...

I have done all the prep work and went down to the car park where they do it at Bathurst and did a trail run around... recon i have no probs..

Just got to rem those head checks......

Any other things i should look out for or practice for....?

Just hope it is not wet sat :wink:

Don't forget some of the simple rules...

- wait for the lights to stop flashing at a rail crossing before you take off...

- don't speed through road works

Did both of these on my P's test and subsequently failed... :oops:

Did mine two weeks ago...
three things
  • headcheck
  • paractice your emergency braking, this where half our group failed
  • headcheck


and relax, if you have to go back all u have to do is the MOST not the whole day again and thats only about $40

Most students find braking the most intimidating (not that it's hard). Practise your setup and squeeze from 20 - 30km/h so that your familiar with the speed. Make sure as your stopping you've got the front wheel right on the limit. If you're used to that you'll crap the test in.

Practise your slow riding from level 1, using plenty of revs (that'll stop you stalling, and practise doing tight circles (body upright, bike pushed down, steering on full lock or close to)

Enjoy the course. Remember it's not all about the test. You'll find it a good course (provided your instructors a good un). If you screw the test you just go backl next week and do the test, not the whole course.

When you do the swerve at the end make sure you go the right way. Amazing how many get the swerve but go in the wrong direction (it's an automatic fail)

you aint stoopid colette :D

if you are doing the test on the ZZR, they have a slightly longer wheelbase i believe than similar style 2fiddy's, so, its harder to turn them in the U-turn box. get up on the side of the seat when dropping (no pun)body upright, bike pushed down to do the turn, just be sure you can still use rear brake.

thanks for this...

Emergency braking really haven't practiced that too much yet.....
on the bike this afternoon..
U-turn I have that down.... the zzr can turn it even standing up straight...
Does it matter skidding you rear on emergency stop??

Skidding any wheel is an instant fail as you have effectively lost control of the vehicle.

DO NOT use the rear brake when doing your emergency stop.......the weight is all forward and you will lock the back wheel very very easily

Just remember, if they ask if you were using it... say "Ofcourse sir" but listen to Rossi... he knows all....

Ofcourse Rossi doesnt use the back brake because I broke his foot off....

im very nervouse about teh test but i know my stuff.

When I did the test in July 2005 skidding was allowed for the emergency stop only (the trail bike riders were doing it all the time).
I had no problems with the zzr rear brake on the stop, I only used light pressure though. Probably best not to grap too much front brake, let the pressure off if it starts to shudder otherwise you'll lock it and possibly lowside.

Trev's right, once you get used to doing the full lock U-turn its easy on the zzr, the box is slightly wider than what it used to be in days gone past (6.1m vs 5.9m). The cone weave requires a bit more attention that you don't go too wide.

Don't worry, you get a good deal of time before hand to practice and you get to show the others that you are not a girly man by wimping out and hiring a bike.

You can lock what you like in NSW. We don't give a rats how you stop so long as you pull up in the required distance with the bike upright. If you lock the front though it's highly unlikely you'll pull up in the distance required or upright. Don't worry about the back too much, it won't do anything but if you lock it it doesn't matter.

Too right - just remember NOT TO PUT both feet down. You can go outside the U-Turn box and lose a point, but go outside and put both feet down - hosed. :cry:
