Disappointed As Phillip Island Info center
Disappointed As Phillip Island Info center
Just like to say i went to Phillip Island to look at the Worls Famous Phillip Island Race Track. How disappointed I was to find a run down, dirty, and boring place.
Where was the memorbilla, signed photos of the racers, the TV showing video of past races. What about the expensive price to go into the museum.
Does anyone share the same view as me?????

Well, it is only a racetrack....
I think you are missing the point though. The place is alive when there is a race on. The bikes, the people, the atmosphere is what it's all about. It's not about a few pictures on some walls, a video or memorabilia.
It's about going there for the racing, to meet friends, have a good time and leave with great memories.

Yeah true.. but it would be nice to have some atmosphere when visiting a place like that, not everyone can get to the big races etc.
Maybe if the made it a better place to visit, Melbournes bikers would make it a meeting destination and a place to stop over for a coffee etc before the head of back home...

I guess it's a question of how many visitors would you really get? Probably not enough to have someone working there. And as far as I can tell, the ride to PI is as boring as shit, so no one really rides there anyway.motomark wrote:Yeah true.. but it would be nice to have some atmosphere when visiting a place like that, not everyone can get to the big races etc.

I can see his point though........it is *alive* and pumping when there is a *world-class* race there..........which is only a few times a year for the scoot-jockeys (GP, SBK, Island Classic, Oz Superbikes NOT this year !!)
Other lower-profile meetings with small crowds, well, its just a racetrack.......everyone is only concerned with racing, not history...
At any other time during the year, it has huge potential to rake in tourism dollars which is just not happening at the moment. I guess the redevelopment will take care of that....
A race 'museum', some good archival material, none of that stuff is particularly hard to set up......and when there is not much racing on, tourism dollars could still be made ??

Gos, main attraction of Phillip Island is still the penguin parade, not everyones cup of tea but that's the reality. Now that Linfox own PI racetrack it might change a bit but would think amuseum is pretty distant on their mind, the golf course, hotel are likely to ake far more money and attract far more pople than a museum at PI.
As Jason said earlier, the ride to PI is indeed boring as batshit so would be few going there for a racing museum I reckon, might be handy for the lunch break at a trackday, be about it I reckon.
On a side note I see Mr Yoda has a new sig so I daresay the new bike is under his bum as well.

i went and limped around the penguin parade a few weeks ago the day after doing a track day at PI, bugger all to see during daylight hours... paid 4 bucks to check out their little 'museum'
im sure its quite nice at dusk or dawn when there are actually penguins there to see tho! but pretty exxy...
went and checked out the knobbies, and that was beautiful... never seen anything so picturesque... better than the great ocean road, easy... the 'blow hole' is right up there... didnt see any seals tho... but plenty of seagulls
