Scottoilers...
Steph used to have a bike with a Scottoiler on it... It did the job very very nicely... the chain was in good nick the entire time she had it... I dont think she ever oiled it...
Recently I noticed that my chain is buggered through neglect... I am thinking of getting a scottoiler for my zx6r...
Or a similar product... I dont know if there are any...
Has anyone here bought one in Aus? Did it cost a lot? How is it working for you? Was it hard to install yourself?

Hmmm there are a few alternatives... there is an alternative called "Loobman" (http://www.loobman.com) which is actually quite interesting...
its very low tech... its basically a squeezy bottle and a tube with a special nozzle for putting it onto your chain...
so you still have to remember to do it.... but that has never been the issue... its the whole spray oil, push bike forward, spray oil, push bike forward thing that drives me nuts...

Alco, get a rear stand mate! Makes oiling the chain easy..
Or a tip for not having one lean the bike over on the side stand to the rear tyre lifts up of the ground and spray as the wheel is turned...

Go with the race stand. Personally I think any manufacturer that makes a chain driven bike and doesn't include a rear stand needs rooting, it's just so friggin illogical.
Yes I know they're extra weight and I know they can scrape for those that get down that low but it's still a dumb arse piece of engineering to leave it offf in the first place.

How do you do either of these, if you are all by yourself? I only have 2 arms, not 8, like an octopus

How long did your chain last before it started getting tight spots?
I have a bit of a theory about the chain maitenance and its the price of lube against the price of a new chain but i still get down there with the kero and a rag and do the clean and lube thing every 1000kms or when its lokking a bit ordinary.
I supose you might see other things that need attention while you are at it with the chain cleaning and its better to have something that works properly and is maintained than replacing the broken bit when its too late.
those scott oilers looked way overpriced when i looked at them but the other one you have there that uses engin oil would be ok so long as it doesnt fling all over the bike.

I have a scottoiler on my 12. I picked it up for just over $200 and I swear by it. Easy to install and the chain is always lubed nicely. I don't have to worry about trying to get my bike on a stand by myself or oiling the chain everytime I go on a long trip. It's done automatically. I strongly recommend it and wouldn't be without it on any bike I have from now on 

4 wheels is 2 wheels too many

After making sure the side stand IS down, and the bike's in neutral...
- from the left of the bike grab the front brake with your left hand
- grab under the right side of the seat or tail with your right hand and pull up an over a bit with your right hand - rear wheel is now off the ground
- rotate the wheel with your right foot
- put the bike down
- lube the visible section
- repeat
Easier if you have a mate that can either do the lifting or the lubing.
