New Bike

Post by chill »

Hi fellaz!

just bought myself a new 06 ZX6R. picking it up in a few hours.
just got a few question for experienced people like urselves!

1. do i need a steering damper?
afta i put a deposit on the bike the girl at the shop sits me down an asks me if i got all the gear. then she's like saying i need a steering damper for the bike cuz those bikes have that problem bad... outta all the 600's. i was thinking WTF! tell me that afta i put a deposit! FUK!!!

2. do i need a tank protector?
i was thinking just get one when the tank is scratch then put the tank protector over it....

right now i don't have one cent left to spare! just need some advice guys to see if i should borrow some money to get these 2 items cuz it's money that i'm going to have to pay back on top of what i've borrowed for this babie!

cheerz!

You shouldnt need a steering damper.... depends on what you are going to do though... lots of wheelies and high speed stuff and you should consider it..

Just remember, you are going to have to run it in first... during that time you shouldnt be doing anything that would require you to have a steering damper...

When it is time to get one, you can probably pick up one from Ebay... A new one costs between $600 and $900 but look for one on the forums, here and netrider and you can probably (with patience) pick one up for half that price... Wreckers will probably have some too...

My 03/04 doesnt really need a steering damper... or at least I havent needed one yet...

Tank protector - Probably a good idea.... depends if you are worried about scratching your hot new machine...
The world is round. It has no point.

Congrats on the new bike...

Not sure about the steering damper, my 04 seems to go alright without one but some of the 05 owners might be a better sounding board...

As for the tank protector, Frozzie had some nice ones at the motor show for around $30... Definately worth the investment.

What colour did ya get???

Damper - no
Tank protector - yes, it stops your jacket scratching the tank...

If it needed a damper then it would come with one.

A tank-protector is always a good idea but you don't have to get one straight away if you're a bit strapped for cash.
Motorcycle's are inherently unstable...

Hi Chill, and welcome to the Club - Good luck with your new bike.

There are plenty of other 6 owners here who can give you good advice about your new rig - I don't think you will need a damper until you have become comfortable with the 6 at *speed*, and only if the roads you regularly use have shite surfaces.............

In any case, you will know when to fit one, after your first big tankslapper

Tank protector is a damn fine idea, bung one on as soon as you can afford it.

cheers :D

Congrats mate,
wouldn't waste ya $$$ on a damper unless your planning on going flat knackers all the time. I have to try really hard to get even a little head shake outta my 05. You'd be better served running it in and them getting the suspension set up, when you can outride that, think about it.

If ya can run and extra $30-$40 definately invest in a tank protector.

BTW WHAT COLOUR???

Welcome chill, even if you get one of those cheapy 27 dollar plastic tank pad thingys it will stop you scratching up the tank with belt buckles and the bottom of your jacket a gcc one is more expensive but A heaps better thing and those plastic ones just peel off with little effort when you are ready.

order everything and then tell them to throw it in as freebies and ask the accesories girl what shes doing on friday night lol.

Steering damper depends on what you weigh if your in the 50 kg zone and like to get on the power early up the hills mid corner its a good idea cause they lift mid corner a little and land and go chirp and the occilations start there of course if your a bigger fella like 70 kgs its way less of a problem.

ENJOY :D
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?
