Has anyone tried this petrol yet?

Will EFI bikes automatically run with 100 octane?

Shell Optimax Extreme is a new super-high octane fuel with a minimum octane rating of 100, the highest currently available at any Australian service station. Shell Optimax Extreme is formulated with 5% ethanol.

Shell Optimax Extreme is formulated to deliver more engine responsiveness, sharper acceleration and enhanced power in many modern and high performance vehicles compared to other Shell premium fuels.

Ethanol is a renewable non-fossil fuel produced in Australia. When used in fuel it’s a cleaner burning, renewable component that helps to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, through the formulation with ethanol, Shell Optimax Extreme has a substantially lower sulphur and benzene content than the maximum levels set under the Federal Government’s fuel quality standards. Ethanol is a cleaner burning, renewable fuel component that helps to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions.

Shell Optimax Extreme will initially be available at selected Coles Express sites in the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra.

CMIIW, but higher octane fuel does not actually give you more power (more difficult to burn).

The advantage is gained from using a higher-compression engine (which in turn requires higher octane fuel).

Is it cheaper than optimax ???
I'm not putting ethanol in my bike and if I'm paying petrol prices than I only want petrol

Seriously I do not think that much ethanol is anything to worry about. As long as you jetted for the stuff it should be cool. My concern is that it is being made by Shell, who also happen to make Opticrap.

Well all i can say is read the stickers on the Pump and get the stuff from in the shop

it doesnt recommend bikes use it
and tells you not to use it in Planes and mowers as well
what does that tell you

and shell doesnt call it a Quality Fuel

thats all i can say
Myself ............ i wont be letting it any where near my bike

BTW if you get any water in your tank the ethanol seperates from the fuel and trust me you dont want straight ethanol run through your engine

You can't compare what it says about planes, as I'm sure you have to be able to track where & what fuel you use in planes & also that the fuel is not out of date. Planes tend to use big cube low performance & rpm engines.

As for the mowers, well my Hunda mower runs on Optimax, Ultimate & normal unleaded as what evers in my bike jerry can the gf uses to fill the mower up.

I use Optimax all the time in my bike & NEVER have a problem.

Ethanol aside, I guess it all comes down to the bike you ride and what RON fuel the manual says you should put in. Put in something with a too-low RON and you get knocking, if it's too high you end up with things like fouled spark plugs from the different combustion characteristics of higher octane fuel, and you've paid more per litre for fuel that actually gives you worse performance. My little ZZR250 is supposed to run on 91 RON, so I don't see myself lining up at the Optimax Extreme pump any time soon...

I think EFI motors (well, ones in cars anyway) tend to have a knock sensor to be able to retard ignition to cope with running on lower than recommended octane fuel, but I don't know if they have any way of adjusting for higher than recommended octane fuel.

steer well clear of ethonol..


Owe and Lucas works in that industry as does Tape.. So when if comes to what servo's are doing, rumours on fuel, etc they know what their talking about.


Stopped me wasting my money on 95 octane fuel.

i tent to use 95 ron ive had problems with optimax there seems to be to much shit in it.
