ZXR 900 R Update... Dammit :(

Post by JamesLaugesen »

Quick update, been very busy.
Got my "ZXR 900 R" on the road in what I considered a very close to finished state last Friday, had some hassles with my 7 carbs so I got a set of 9 ones and went veeery nicely.
Test ride on Saturday morning went great, on the way home, giving it a bit of wrist I backed off for a corner... and had no power out of the corner. Absolutely nothing.
First thought it was electrical but alas, no compression in #1 and #2 cylinders.

Still perfect spark, no smoke, noise, vibration, anything.
Haven't checked coolant for oil and can't smell glycol but had a fairly low concentration while I was still testing the engine and replacing coolant very frequently to clean the system out.

Hopefuly time to pull the rocker cover off tomorrow night.

#1 theory so far is head gasket?
Low down for techy help: #1 and #2 went at exactly the same time, no noise or smoke or anything. Felt just like electrical. Rotating wheel does crank #3 and #4 which have good compression.

Thanks to Ty for chatting on the phone and contact Dave#3 who came down to RWC to hang out with me and chat, thanks mate.

J.

PS - Wonder if JpBikeBoy has had better luck? hahaha.
ZXR"900" - In pieces... again.
Another engine gone but at least the purple and pink are still there, oh yeah.

Was there any noise! What colour is the oil. Have you cranked it over for compression test and has any oil coloured the plugs. If it makes cranky metal noises, don't thumb start it.

Still have not got my bloody motor together yet. It sounds like you may have blown the head gasket between 1 and 2. still a bit odd though. just confirm there is definately still spark, air and fuel getting to those cylinders. was it running lean before this happened., you may have holed a piston. don't worry i've got a few stockers that are perfect that you can have.

MMmmmm holed piston sounds the cause too james. Drain oil and drop the sump and check for metal pieces. Either way you aren't going to get out of this one cheap
