OMG everything is fucked again!

Post by Stereo »

My 03 ZX6r yesterday started playing up.... running funny... as if it was running on 3 cylinders.... and then kicking back into 4 and back to 3...

This morning while I was warming it up I smelled like petrol and sounded funny... I walk over there and there is a small puddle of petrol under it, and petrol is spitting out of the back of the exhaust!!

HEEEEELP!!! WHat the hell is wrong with it? I would love to take it to a mechanic but they are all closed on a sunday... and I have stuff all tools, so cant do much... besides which, with petrol coming out I dont really want to ride it around because I am afraid it will catch on fire or something...

What year is it? does it have carbs or EFI if carbs my guess is a ripped rubber thingy in one of the carbs, if EFI= an open injector nozzle something stuck in it flooding one cylinder.

You have fuel filling up a cylinder, if it will run for a few seconds feel the pipes the cold one will tell you which one has the problem, rip out the injector and see if anything is holding it open.

Sure, that would be awesome if I knew what an injector looked like.... and if I had tools...

Took it for a quick blat around the block, it starts running fine if I give it some juice.... then it goes back to running funny when I get close to idle....

could it be the spark plug not firing?

If it was a plug problem it would be worse under load

so it doesnt seem down on power under WOT at full noise?

probably a leaking injector...

if you dont know what an injector looks like, go see your mechanic tomorrow.. hopefully it just needs a clean rather than replacement

if your worried about hydrolocking, pull all the spark plugs out and roll start it with the ignition off to turn the engine over a bit and push any excess petrol out, then if you say it runs semi-decently with the revs up then you should be right to take it to the mechanic like that

chin up mate, the bikes still green

mate have you had the tank off theres a funny fuel plug connecter under there check it out to see if its partially undone and sucking air...think it goes to the fuel pump....clean out the air filter while you are at it. :D

Opps its flowing out of the exhaust as well take it too a shop on a trailer.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

well if its less than 2 years old it will be under warranty and if not ring the mechanic/dealer and yes this is a time i would risk going to a dealer because its good experiance for all there apprentices...or maybe too hard and the mechanic will have to do it.

if its till under warranty they might come and get you but ti doubt it.
