Front Tyre Scalloping
Front Tyre Scalloping
G'day all,
On the front of my '9' I have a BT 010 running at about 40 PSI. Frankly, I've no idea if thats the optimum pressure because there is severe scalloping happening. Help!!.
Brett.

Brett,
36Psi is the go for the front, but the BT010 is a very old tyre! They were replaced by the BT012 series which in turn were replaced by the BT014 series. So theyre a good couple of years old. Even if it was only purchased not too long ago, it couldve been sitting on a shelf for a while. so the age of it may have something to do with it.
But those Bridgies were common for having scalloping fronts, the BT020 moreso than the 010. Id replace it with a BT014 if you have the readies to do so.

As the boys have said Brett, its a damn old model tyre I can remeber trying to buy one over 2 years ago for the Fzzr only to be told they were'nt making them anymore & there was none left anywhere in Brisbane.
As for the scalloping it was pretty standard for the 010 front especially when combined with an 020 rear. I also run 33psi in my zx9r F1, But i'm not game to put in on a track. Also as most scalloping on the front happens during braking, you may want to play with your front suspension settings as well. I found it an ongoing process to get mine where i wanted it. But it was worth all the fluffing around to get it to suit my lightwt & riding style.
So mate Treat yourself to a new hoop, there is some great ones available if you like lotsa grip. Pilot RACE is the go, but i'm a huge fan of the Metsler Racetech & the Bridgie 012SS as well. For a bit more life you can go the Bridgie 014 or the Shinko 005.
