ZXR750 L model clutch leaf Spring

Post by zxrmad »

I posted this in my track bike build thread, but thought I might get more answers if I started a new thread...

Today I stripped the clutch on my L model ZXR750 track bike as it would slip almost as though it wasn't engaged at all. I found 2 problems...

1. The bearing in the outer plate that the push rod acts on was cocked and half way out. This was obviously holding the clutch partly disengaged all the time. I have no idea how this could have happened? I have never ridden this bike so I can only assume that a previous owner has installed it incorrectly, although I don't see how anybody could do it. 2. The leaf or finger Spring is broken. Photo below

The parts manuals show a different leaf Spring and nut (different part # and the Spring looks different) for the '94 and '95 model to the '93. Mine has the '93 type leaf Spring in it. The parts diagram also shows 2 leaf springs for the later models not 1 like the '93.

Can anybody explain the difference? Or do I just put the late model springs and but in mine? Every other part number in the clutch is identical in all models.

I'm guessing the later model Spring was an update to a better part?

Thanks
Brian

I don't know a lot about slipper clutch setup, but the additional spring on the later bikes (more weight!) suggests someone decided that perhaps the earlier bikes didn't have enough engine braking.

Cheers,

The later Spring looks to be a different shape too by the look of the parts diagram. The Spring in the box at the bottom of the diagram is the '93 and the main diagram is the later ones

Ive ordered the later springs and nut.
