ZXR750 H2 1989 Jap model speed limiter issue

Post by mark1 »

Hi

Not sure how it happened but now the owner of a race bike 1989 zxr 750 h2 jap import with speed limiter on cdi runs to 8000 then cuts out.the wiring has been changed with a resistor put in and earthed to the frame but the other end pink wire is not attached to anything I believe it should be attached to the cdi somehow? There was one empty space on the plug in to the cdi but this makes no difference if attached.
Suggested tyre pressures for slicks with big guy riding

Thanks

Tyre pressures will depend on what slicks you are running. What brand, what compound and roughly what times you'll be doing?

Remove the CDI and send it to Small Coil Rewinds in Geelong. Tell them it is for a race bike and they will not only remove the limiter, but they will also alter the ignition curve, so you can slot the cam wheels and shift the timing to gain more power in the mid to top end of the rev range. Alternatively, buy an Oz spec CDI. It will have no speed limiter.

I just fitted an Ignitech ignition to my H1 ZXR 750. It was about $400 to $450 and is fully programmable. It's much easier than messing around with with the stock stuff. Everyone that is racing them are ditching the stock ignition these days as the aging CDI's are continually causing faults with the stock ignition system.

You still haven't mentioned what slicks you will be running.
