ZX10R constant power loss

Post by Joshmc1020 »

Hey all.

2012 ZX10R race bike

First lap all is well and it's a rocket ship. By the end of lap one it doesn't want to rev, still rides fine, but coughs and splutters a little and generally just loses all acceleration. Short shifting gears sort of seems to help it, but not really.

I noticed the fuel pump doesn't prime every time I hit the ignition switch.. So that's what I'm pointing at

Anyone experienced this before?

Thanks

Have had similar symptoms on a carbed bike, turned out I had kinked the tank breather hose when putting the tank back on. Does the fuel cap suck air when opened after a lap? If not then your probably on the money with the fuel pump.

The tank cap isn't sealed fully yes, I found that out coming into turn 3 at QR (off the fastest part of the track to the slowest corner) when fuel was leaking from around the tank cap and the wind was catching it and blowing it across my visor.

I pulled it apart and the neck of the cap that mounts to the opening of the tank doesn't have a seal of any kind, I bodged it up with tape to stop the leak and the power issue persisted.

The fuel pump doesn't prime every time I hit the ignition switch (the electrical winding sound you're meant to hear when you switch the ignition on) so that's why I'm thinking that's it. And it's not showing any fault codes or any sort of indication on the dash. I've got a new pump coming just in case. But it's back with a mechanic (who has a dyno) to diagnose it and see what he finds.

Sorry mate I haven't been back on here since before the trip.
