ZX-9R ENGINE OIL
Hi
New to this forum
I have just bought a 2000 ZX-9R(2 weeks ago) with 39,000 ks and im wanting to do an oil change to the bike.
What id like to know does this bike run mineral or syn oil in it from factory?
How does one tell what type of oil is in the bike now ??
Or what would be better to run in the bike as its used everyday and not ridden to hard?
What brand of oil and filter to run aswell??
Thanks
Dave

Re: ZX-9R ENGINE OIL
welcome..
From the factory it would have had mineral oil. Thats whats in them for the run in period. After that I'd be using a semi synthetic.
Shop around, most name brand oil are ok, and what oil you choose try to stick with it..
If you can find out from the previous owner what they used, maybe stick with that.
I'm using Penrite motorcycle oil atm, well priced and available at local auto shops like repco and peps...

Re: ZX-9R ENGINE OIL
I have 3 zx9s and have run motul 5100 in all of them, one has 193,000 on it the others have 65000 and 75,000.none of them have ever had any engine repairs so i think this stuff is pretty good.Mind you it really does get down to maintenence and regular changes.

thanks gents
Re: ZX-9R ENGINE OIL
Yeah +1 on the Motul 5100 fully synthetic. Has to be one of the best. I will use this on My E series.
Like I said in a similar thread to this, I only used this oil in my b1 ZX9R for the entire 12 years of ownership and never ever had any issues. My oil changes were religious, regardless of Kays, time based mostly.
I never had any gasket weepage, seepage, nothing. Performance impeccable, clutch operation perfect. Nothing ever out of the ordinary. The B1 engine did idle like a truck, but that was standard issue and I didn't mind it all.
What a beast !!

Hey mate, just wondering which one has the 193,000 Kays ? Very interesting..z900/zx9 wrote:I have 3 zx9s and have run motul 5100 in all of them, one has 193,000 on it the others have 65000 and 75,000.none of them have ever had any engine repairs so i think this stuff is pretty good.Mind you it really does get down to maintenence and regular changes.
This is what love about bikes that with careful maintenance they can go this far.
My guess it's a B series ?

Re: ZX-9R ENGINE OIL
5100's a semi synthetic I think but it's good shit. I've run it in everything except the tracky's and the 10 which I used 7100 in. As the others have said though there really isn't a bad oil but consistency is apparently the key. They don't like mixing it up so muchZX9R Man wrote:Yeah +1 on the Motul 5100 fully synthetic. Re: ZX-9R ENGINE OIL
I was always sure it was a full synthetic.
Anyway, here's a grab from the advert for it.
"A high performance 4–stroke ester synthetic blend provides better shifting and less wear due to extreme pressure additives and an anti–foaming agent that keeps oil pressure high and heat transfer at a maximum."
I think this why it's referred to as Technosynthese.. Wait while I put my teeth back in..
Isn't Ester a synthetic oil ? I guess they're trying to say that it is a blend of certain Ester based oils to produce one super dooper oil. Not sure haven't looked into it.
Like you say it is good shit ! Never had a bad experience not even oil usage. Even after 3-4000 kays the oil I was dumping was still golden. Felt like I was wasting the stuff, but it's a necessary thing for quality and longevity.

All good buddy. I'm still learning at my age. I'm happy to be corrected by some oil Guru.
