Motul oils.
I was discussing my use off Motul oil on another forum recently namely Motul 10w-40 5100.
Below is a response from 1 punter...I'm interested to hear any thoughts on this comment.
I've had many many mechanics tell me not to use motul.
All the big shops carry motul but a lot of the service shops carry other brands.
I've had a few say something like this about enduro and motocross racing.....
"We noticed the guys running motul are the ones having to rebuild their engines towards the end of the season or having catastrophic engine failures". "Those of us not running motul aren't having issues".
Just throwing that out there. Not saying its rubbish, just passing on what I've been told by guys I trust.
At the end of the day, he who has the biggest marketing budget tends to become the most well known brand.
A certain brand may have a high profile here and be a market leader, but in europe it may be considered as a budget or lower tier brand.
The more we learn about what makes a great oil, the more we see some brands market themselves as the best and charge a high price but may only include 5% of an expensive ingredient in their oil while another brand has 15% but is not the favored oil of the day.
Of course we aren't pushing our bikes to the limit constantly like the racers are but its still interesting to know who's suffering failures and who isn't.

Don't knock my turbo lag - it gives your naturally aspirated a chance..

If you run a thin semi synthetic oil under "race style" conditions with a Gun rider you are asking for trouble . Motul is a great oil when using the right grade under any conditions for example , full race you can use 0/20 V300 and it wont breakdown like a semi or normal style of oil and you will get HP gains from it ( other than using a thick oil) but it's expensive . I use 5/30 high-tech full synthetic in my bike with rev extend and a lot of other bolt on mods and never had a problem at all but I am far from a gun rider, Brocks performance forum has a good bit of info about oil that may shock some folks but it has been proven that the grade /thin /thick comes down to how much HP the engine makes but that's another story . Each to there own with oil story's imo
PS 5100 as you are using under what you do will be all right unless you have turned into a
on the road .

If your racing motocross you should be doing rebuilds once a season in any case and top ends twice a season.
I've always used it in every bike , dirt and road and it's fine. Phil had it in his nine for ever and it pumped out 130 hp with over 100000 k on the motor

here's some good info for ya .
1. We use our Alisyn <<0 in all of our stock engine bikes. I will be testing a thicker version for general street and big power use very soon. (<<0 has been in my ZX-14 its whole life, and it just made 195 HP last week- one of my friends has had it in his GSX-R1000 for 11K street miles, and he also road races the bike. This oil is the best we have ever found!)
2. Quaker state 20w-50 (Big CC/Nitrous) or 10w-30 (stock) is organic�..but it works VERY well and is readily available.
3. Find the highest quality, fully synthetic MOTORCYCLE oil you can; Royal Purple, Red Line, Amsoil, Golden Spectro�.etc. We have also had very good results with Motul and Motorex in the past. (BUT- we just had one customer have a clutch pusher weld problem switching to Motorex from Red Line- switched back to Red Line after the repair and the problem went away�so we are as confused as you at the moment about this problem.)
4. ANY fully synthetic motor oil from ANY motorcycle manufacturer/Dealership (Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha�.etc.) will also be a fine choice.
Note: We try to stay away from all other synthetic car oils as a result of customer problems in the past (Castrol, Kendall, Pennzoil etc. have all caused problems of some type). The organic versions of these brands have also been in question for years...but hell- everything changes and at this point�use your own judgment!

ps. My advice:

3. 10W-30 for modified engines up to 250 HP normally aspirated.

Just to clarify in regards to Castrol.Are you talking about their motorcycle specific oils or are you talking about people using their car oils in bikes?MAXUMIS wrote:here's some good info for ya .

I have been using 5100 in all my bikes since about 1995, never had any issues and all my bikes do lots of k's. In fact i have lost count of the amount of times I have been told my bikes are rolling advertisements for regular oil changes with quality oil. Last service on the ZRX , my new mechanic didnt beleive me when I told him how many k's the bike had really done (speedo doesn't tell the full story)

Always used Motul 5100 on my ZRX as well as the ZX6R, no problem what so ever.
...i don't like the drugs, but the drugs like me!!
