Riding All Year Round.
Riding All Year Round.
Hey guys I was just wondering what your thoughts and views on riding all year round, especially in the wet. As I want to sell my car and use my bike as my daily to and from work. I live in Townsville (QLD) which sees a lot of sun all year round.

I spent years without a car licence & rode a bike 7 days a week rain hail or shine, you adapt to it...... its a lifestyle & a good one at that

Re: Riding All Year Round.
I sold my car a few years back and only have my bike to get around these days. There are three things you need to be ready for when making this choice:
1) Be prepared to ride in the rain
2) Learn to carry almost anything on your bike with complex systems of ocky straps and ratchet ties
3) Have a good mate/family member who will lend you a car on those occasions when you can't strap your new 50' TV on the bike
If you can achieve all three of those things then you'll be rewarded with being awesome and having loads of fun every time you're on the road. So as Rob said... DO IT!! =D

Re: Riding All Year Round.
I've done it for years in Canberra and Sydney. Doing it somewhere warm like Townsville should be a doddle. Riding in the rain is an inconvenience more than anything. I have a rack and bag (which I would highly recommend over a backpack) that gives me plenty of room for wet gear and or a change of clothes for work if necessary. Go for it. You'll save heaps in fuel and rego too.
Real bravery is being afraid but doing it anyway.

Go for it!
I've been commuting everyday rain, hail or 45 deg for 4 years now. Wet weather is annoying but neither you or the bike is allergic to the rain!
I only have a backpack and you would be surprised just what you can carry haha
The wife still has a car for any big items and weekends away... Don't know if it would work for me without that...
I love it though - cuts down my commuting time, free parking and that feeling of freedom you get just makes everyday better!
