Odd rear tire wear?

Post by BrettZZR »

Now the second rear tire that has worn so that there are three distinct flat faces:

Now I understand fully why the middle one is there, but why are the side bits flat like that? Why are they not simply rounded similar to when they were new?

Any ideas? (I'll try get a pic)

Probably worn out cause it's tired...........
OR... It's the camber of the Perth roads compared to the US roads..................

As Wattie says what pressures.

Did that to a slick running to higher pressure (followed the instructions of the guy I bought the bike off). Squared it off quite nicely and nearly high sided me off on the final turn at Eastern Creek. Nice lesson to learn

I never tyre of this banter!

Been running ~36 psi, but I checked it now and its about 32. Is that shape a sign of under inflation?

Given the ZZ11 is no lightweight and there are usually two... ummm.... solid people on it should I be running higher pressures? 40 psi? This tire is on it's way to the bin but I don't want this to happen to the next one too.

What about at the front, what pressure do you suggest there?

Thanks.

What tyre is it? brand, profile/ size etc.

Heavy bikes like my 12R i run 38psi or 40 on long transporting runs. twisty stuff i will drop it a bit depending on the heat/feel/look of the tyre.

Saying that some tyres are constructed differently and behave as such so the pressure is only a starting point.

I run 41 on rear when I check it ! And I'm on a zed.

I agree with wattie probably should be higher to start with.

Maybe change brands? I did on my front due to shit wear patterns.
