I'm on Terry's side.
At least you know what you are getting from start to finish.

Re: Racing in AUS - 2014
I can't support TON or Konsky. I think they are both no good for the sport. I'd rather Woody take over ASBK with MRRDA and send TON broke. Only then will road racing be able to move forward in this country.Wattie wrote:I'm on Terry's side.

Re: Racing in AUS - 2014
As a long time spectator at Eastern creek and Oran Park the simple logic says ONE F%#KIN SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try explaining either of them to the lay man and its impossible."Why is Yamaha the only team that look fair dinkum in this series?" "Why is there only family and friends at that one?"FX what?"Is this one Superbikes?"Why dont they spend 3 bucks on a couple of rattle cans and make the damn things look half decent?"Common questions from people who are interested in motorsport but due to hopeless promotion and information don't understand why there are two series and why one hasnt been to Sydney in yonks.(I know it came this year)
Also forget looking at the Eastern creek website to see when a bike race is on because they never list it as an event. When you see how many show up to watch im not surprised!
Did anyone outside of anoraks know there was some kind of race meet at Eastern Creek last weekend?Ridiculous.[/rant over]

I don't thing you can blame Terry for what has happened.
He saw the ASBK going downhill fast, so started his own series.
He has given the racers what they wanted.
-competitive classes
-cost effective mods
-tv coverage
-choice of classes with/without strict rules and tyre choices.
And lots of track time.
If it wasn't for the "recognized" national championship. Nobody would be racing in ASBK.
The thing MRRDA has going for it, is juniors.
Junior racing is limited in NSW and that's not Terry's fault either.

Re: Racing in AUS - 2014
He didn't leave, he was pushed out. He has a grudge against MA and Konsky because of this and has done everything in his power to undermine ASBK ever since. He is only interested in lining his pockets and doesn't care about the bigger picture of road racing. Yes he has promoted a decent racing series and had some great ideas like live streaming and TV coverage (especially in Asia), but it has been at the detriment of the sport and the benefit of his bank balance. By breaking away from MA and having two licensing systems, it has severely compromised grading of riders and his 'control' over the only two tracks in NSW made it very difficult for the only remaining club in NSW to get track time as he tried to squeeze them out and create a monopoly on road racing for himself in this state.Wattie wrote:I don't thing you can blame Terry for what has happened.

ASBK is a total clusterfuck. Konsky couldn't run a choko vine over a shithouse and has run it into the ground. The sooner TON and Konsky leave the sport, the better for everyone.
MRRDA have the juniors as well as building the numbers of all road racers back up as their priority, (not making themselves rich) which is why they need to be supported, not the current two narcissistic promoters. They also have Sam (ex AMCN editor) and a couple of other key personnel getting on board this year that will give them the ability to expand. The sooner the 'club minded' people take back over the sport and get rid of the greedy promoters, the better for us all.

Re: Racing in AUS - 2014
If it wasn't for FX, there's be no national class racing in NSW. MA / Konsky screwed that up many years ago and did the same in SA.
I also noticed in the article that the ARDC is no longer a partner in the TON ASC series. That probly explains the drop from 3 rounds at EC to only 1 next year.
ARDC aren't interested in bikes taking track time at the creek..

I can't see how that's correct about TON seeing ASBK going downhill fast, and then stepping in with his series.Wattie wrote:I don't thing you can blame Terry for what has happened.

As I recall in the 90's the Australian Road Race Series was thriving. There were large numbers on the grid. I remember in the 250 Production class at these rounds we had 45 bikes on the grid. Club racing was also thriving with more meetings per year than you could race at. It was around this time that TON came on the scene. Not when it was going downhill.

He was punted. Sat back for a year and watched it turn to poo poo and gave riders a better option.
He had to organize his own system, as MA was involved with the ASBK.
The problem now for "the sport" is that Terry's championship is good, and for MA to take back over, they will need to take Terry back onboard or come up with a better setup.
Terry is smashing them for 6 at the moment. MA need to get on board to stop him.

Re: Racing in AUS - 2014
TON was the promoter from 2004 to 2008 and its been Konsky since then. Prior to 2004 I believe it was run / promoted by MA and the state bodies for each of there rounds.
It was certainly in better shape under TON than it is now, but he did start with a succesful series..

if i recall correctly TON 'saved the day' for STG at WP one year after MA pulled the backing effectively cancelling the meet at the 11th hour.
just saying
