zzr250 suspension swap

Post by heroking »

Gday everyone. Have just got a zzr250 2001 with 7000kms to its name. I'm a reasonably fat so and so (95 to 105kgs depending on the season) and am finding the suspension too soft, especially the front. I am gonna keep the bike for a while so I'm wondering if you can swap the fork for something more adjustable. Failing that where in aus can you buy stiffer springs from? My googling skills seem to be fading. Any advice would be appreciated, unless its the standard "don't bother, save the money for a 600". That has already been considered.

The old trick in the book was to put 60 cents worth of 20 cent pieces in the top of each shock to increase preload and putting heavier oil in there to make it a bit stiffer.
I was the same weight when i owned my zzr and i found the front sloppy as well, all i did was put heavier oil in it though but others on this board i know have done the 20 cent trick.

Thanks for the reply guys. I had read that advice at some other places and I do intend to have a go. I think the springs may be pretty shot tho. I can almost bottom the out with a duff-man style pelvic thrust.
My question was more about swapping forks for something more adjustable if it is possible.

Oh yeah and also where can you buy sonic springs or equivalent in Australia. Do I just have to overcome my fear of the internets and order em from the states?
