Newbie with new ZXR race bike - tech help needed!
Hello all,
Appreciate this should probably be under the ZXR or Racing section but I need to get as many eyes on it as possible to get the ball rolling. I’ve recently picked up this ZXR which I’m intending to race in Pre Modern. I’m completely green to Kawasaki’s (pun intended...) so I’m going to need to ask lots of irritating questions, starting with – I need a spare set of rims for wets and since it has Marvics front and rear, plus different discs and calipers on the front, I’m wondering if any existing Kawa stock rims and discs are going to fit up easily (will need to be visually the same to wheels available in the Period – 1990 to 12/95). As best as I can measure with the wheel on the bike (I know, I know…), the disc offset looks to be around 16mm. The internal distance across the rotors is 150mm. The front wheel spacers are about 30mm each side. Any ideas what might fit in? I guess the disc offset is going to be the important dimension as spacers can be made to suit if any different.
The rear 5.75 Marvic is about 220mm from the inside face of the rear sprocket to the disc. I’m guessing a 5.5 is going to be the better option for wets as a 6” is probably over-tyring it, unless of course it so happens an available 6” turns out to be the better fit?? Also guessing any Std Kawa rims are either 5.5 or 6, with none made in 5.75??
Lastly, I don’t have much history on the bike but apparently it was run by a privateer team in the late 90's called SRT who used to buy the old model team bikes. It has certainly been race prepped very well and has all the good bits so if any one has any clues or knowledge on it I’d be grateful. It has a Hallam head and kit parts, but as the kits changed each year I don’t know which bits it has, although I suspect its 94 and/or 98 as it came with a 94 and 98 parts list.
Rgds, Jason

First member that springs to mind is Greenman43 as he is very well versed in the L/M model ZXR race bikes.

Yep, greenman may have an answer or Joe (Greenblood) he had a zx7r with aftermarket wheels..
I remember the SRT team, can't think of who the riders where though, I'll go through some old mags and see what I can dig up. Alistair Maxwell comes to mind as I know he rode an ex TKA zx7r, not sure about the zxr...

Thanks Madkaw,
I'm checking my old mags too, I did also have it suggested it could have been Chris Bombardiere's bike, or maybe even Craggil's originally, as he was the only one who ran Hallam heads, assuming the bike is "as is" from the period, it certaily looks all original.

You put <img> tag in front and then a </img> tag after it (but using square brackets [ ] instead of < > )

Ta very much!
Re: Newbie with new ZXR race bike - tech help needed!
I've had a similar bike for a while and would love to know who raced it originally. It has the Hallam boyz head also but has Ohlins forks and brembo brakes, it has the single air intake so 93 94 presumably. How many of these m model bikes would have been on the race scene back in the day ? I will try to get some pictures up to help.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Newbie with new ZXR race bike - tech help needed!
Pretty sure they'd be billet ISR's $$MAXUMIS wrote:Awesome looking 750 , looks like it has R1 08 and up calliper's with a different bolt pattern??

The calipers are ISR's from the period.
Nick there were a lot of ZXR's raced back then, both "factory" and privateer; I've gone through some old AMCN's and so far I can see the following guys raced them in the Shell series plus some state champs:
Marty Craggil
Chris Bombadierre
Alistair Maxwell
Ben Archibald
Mat Mladin
David Emmerson
Dieter Ackerman
John Orchard
plus loads more I can't remember offhand

Just curious if you have any pictures of the bike with the SRT logos on the bike or did you buy it like that
Thanks Steve
