1995 ZXR750.
Been sat for 2 years and never started. Fitted a new battery and fresh fule and away she went. Ran it for ages .
Stopped and set the fule coke. Started it today, after about 3 days of sitting, and forgot about the fuel cock so it ran dry.
Put some 98 in it and set the cock to on and tried to start but it refuses to do so.
I can see fuel getting to the pump through the filter but i cannot see it coming out of the pump.
Any ideas?

remove the pump and test it separately, it could be that your pump has gone

Possibly sludge from bottom of tank is now in pump or the pump has carked it due to running dry?

HOw do i test the fuel pump?
Do i jus leave it connected then crank the engine over?
Doesn't it need a vacumm to pull the fuel through?
Sorry guys dumb questions

I unbolted the pump of ease of access, connected a new fuel line to the output then put the other end into an empty coke bottle a bit away from the bike then turned the bike over on the starter button.
If its good fuel flows!

Re: ZXR750 - Sat for 2 years, got started, ran out of fuel
ZXRs have a problem in that the fuelpump only operates when the starter button is pressed, I'm pretty sure they're supposed to operate when the ignition is turned on but I've had 4 or 5 L models over the years & on all but 1 the fuelpump only worked when you hit the starter.
The simple solution to your problem is to bypass the fuelpump relay. Get 2 pieces of electrical wire about 250mm long, strip the ends a bit & put 1 end of each to the battery terminals, follow the 2 wires from the pump & unplug the connector then stick the other ends of the wire into the plug + & - your pump will then pump for around 5 - 10 seconds until it fills the carb bowls (you'll hear it slowing down to almost nothing when the bowls are full) then plug the pump back in, ignition, choke, hit the button & you will be smiling.
Be warned though, ZXRs are notorious for electrical gremlins, starter relays, fuelpump relays, dry solder joints & dodgy switchblocks all make for interesting ownership.
