In the info they say the Deputy was suspended for 38 days without pay. I guess it pays to have a camera some times.

A bit more local.

Facebook page set-up to personally attack Highway Patrol Officer

Posted by: Neil Mitchell | 11 December, 2012 - 8:40 AM

Late last night, about 10 o’clock, some one set up a facebook page targeting one traffic policeman. They used a photo of him, they threw dangerous, personal, vitriolic and offensive abuse at him. They incited people to take him on.

The page says it is 'Dedicated to the harassment and victimisation of taxpaying Victorian road users by (and it names him) and his crusade against import car owners'.

It was set up last night and has nearly 1000 followers already. And growing by the minute.

Some of the messages: “He has harassed anyone with a performance vehicle for ten years…..”

“The bloke is a tool”

“Gets on his high horse every time he gets into his uniform”

“He is a disgrace… damaging the automotive industry”

... And worse.

This is nasty stuff and arguably illegal. It stops short of threats but it has his photo there and it is inviting people to harass him. To vilify him.

I am not going to name the policeman. He is a sergeant in the Highway Patrol. If I name him I encourage this nonsense.

I don't like the chances of that ever happening to a cop in Australia...

Farcebook pages are disappearing faster than they can be put up. Funny that they leave all kinds of pages that should be taken down immediately, but start criticising vicpol and all of a sudden yoe see them taken down faster than a scientologists emeter on ebay.

This is what started it.

OP EFFORT" OFFICER PETTETT!! Anyone who has been in the car scene in Victoria will no doubt have butted heads with good old 'officer Pettett'.. He has been reknowned for harassing car club members and ANYONE with a performance vehicle for 10+ years, Myself included!! This guy is one of the classic examples of exactly why car guys have issues with police.. OK, so why the rant you ask? Well here we have a STOCK STANDARD Toyota 86, a few weeks old, DEFECTED by this fine upstanding police officer, for what? THE FACTORY DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS! (DRLs) He refused to believe the owner of the vehicle they were stock, and claimed they were 'foglights'. The owner explained they were factory, and that it is actually impossible to turn them off.. Nope, apparently they are unacceptable... 5 minutes of looking into the legislature (instead of 5 minutes spent chastising the vehicle owner) would show that DRLs are in fact COMPULSORY in some areas for new vehicles, hell even some of the new police Commodores have LED DRLs! In conclusion, I have no problems with the majority of police, in fact I am quite a supporter of the work they do. However a few ego tripping idiots like this guy (yes I have dealt with him a number of times!), give the good ones a bad rep. Yes I understand that the traffic guys have to put up with all manner of excuses, but they should deal with each individual on a case by case basis, not throw their weight around. If they can't separate one road user from another, and treat them individually then they are not cut out for the job. That is like saying a Magistrate should be excused for being more harsh on the last cases at the end of each day because they were pissed off at seeing the previous cases. END RANT. Suggest this one gets shared around, I am surprised he is still in service this long considering he is always so goddamn angry!

I've have had 5 or 6 run ins with this character. Most noteable was at 6am, driving to work in my sports car, an officer was coming the other way, as soon as he saw me, smashed the brakes on, u-turn over the median strip, nearly hit an oncoming car and then pulled me over. He seemed so dead set on chasing me that he didnt give a shit about anyone else on the road, just had me and me only in his sights. He defected me and issued me an EPA notice for my stock Toyota MR2 Turbo. After getting the ticket, saw the name, yep good old Pettett. Years later in the same car, I was driving through Knox at night, saw some cops behind, lights come on and I pull over. Yep you guessed it, same guy again. He started going on about how he was going to enjoy getting my 'piece of shit off the road'. Half way through the traffic stop, he got a call to an emergency and he had to split. He told me to wait there so he could come back and defect my car. I didnt really want
to hang around so I went home. Two weeks later I got a fine in the mail for 'improperly signalling' when they pulled me over -WTF! (I indicated as soon as the lights came on but they claimed I didn't do it in a correct manner). Another year, another car, I was driving near Knox area, I got pulled over by another officer, who was polite and said 'im going to need to defect you as your tyres are showing improper signs of wear'.. Fair enough, I copped it, got a defect notice, and went about my business. Later that day I got pulled over by Pettett, and he went NUTS, went to defect me, I said I already have a defect, so he peeled the other guys defect off and stuck a new one on!! LOL.. He seemed SO MAD that I already had a defect on the car I could go on all day, but they are a couple that stand out in my mind.

Yeah, that's what started it this time. ;) The guy has been around since before arsebook, so this was always going to happen. I don't even live in Victoria and I know the guy's reputation.
