To airbox or not to airbox?

Post by Sparks_333 »

That is the question! I was thinking of removing the airbox and installing pod filters before dynotuning my track bike. My thought process is remove airbox = less restricted airflow = more air to burn more fuel = more POWER.

Interestingly though, two places I phoned today to make inquiries about dynotuning both said that I should leave the stock airbox in. Something to do with carb pressures and airboxes being design to maximise the difference in pressures for more airflow.

Any thoughts on the matter?

yes it might improve the top end

th reason you dont go away from the airbox is you stuff up the bottom end of the revrange due to air turbulance

it will be harder to tune on the dyno using just pods and the result may not work on the track

stick with the airbox , from what i have heard a few extra holes in the airbox helps with the extra air

Your bike will run like a bag of shit without an airbox. If you want a bit more airflow - check the US 250 Ninja forums and add a couple more big holes to the airbox as per their specs. Use a better air filter as well.
