What yesterday was really about for me!

Post by SNAFU »

Hi guy's!
Thought I'd share with you all what yesterday really means to me. I went to the dawn service and then had a great breakfast with good friends. It wasn't about having a holiday or having a sleep in, or thinking about war. For me it is a moment in time to remember the fallen men & women who have served this country in war and peace.

It is also a quiet time of reflection of 30 years of memories and done deeds. Also to take the time to think of the best mates a man could ask for in the world.

Most of all I think of the great friends and mates I have now due partly to sites like this. Most of you are wonderful people who many of you I am proud to call mates. I wish you well and hope your lives are as full and happy as mine. Thank you for taking the time to remember our wonderful service people both past and present.

Lest we forget.

ANZAC day for me? I used to play in a Bendigo pipe band. In this band we would get up at 0300 every ANZAC day to load onto a bus so we could spend the day travelling from service to service, marching and participating in the memorials at various towns in Victoria and NSW. The day was not only about remembering those that have, and still do, give everything in service of the armed forces but also about trying to help pay back in my own little way. Unfortunately the last few years in my new chosen career has gotten in the way of me participating in the same way I used to.

What really shit me today was that while listening to the local radio this morning all that they seemed to focus on was the farkin AFL footy.
I plan on living forever..............so far so good!!

By doing what those who are not around but fought so hard for would do and that was going to the footy, having a BBQ or getting up to watch the march. It is because of those who went before us that we enjoy the freedom and rights we have today (and everyday) to express, say and do what we want to do. Thus if it is a just a day off or an excuse not to get up that right was fought for.

That respect goes to both sides of the war, there are no winners
